    I am going to try and make one, gel coated black, probably three ply.
    Don't have to make a mould for it, just use the original.
    Will figure out a way to prevent rattles...
    I wonder how many cars still have it. L series did not at all.

    Nice, have you figured out how to fix it?
    Looking at my car the top fixing [your flange] would have to be on the spare tyre wheel tub.

    That is right Tony, in my car it was fixed on the spare tyre wheel tub,
    and at the bottom part of the nose on the stiffening wire. Very complicated.

    Now, being so lightweight, it can be fastened just on top, at the tub.

    Hadn’t noticed it before, but with the discussion above, I took a closer look while checking the battery today. #7472 Dec 1973 has the original front battery shield...
    Took the opportunity to top the air horn up with oil too. Easy to forget this one. Red plastic cover just visible between the horn trumpets.

    In Kevin's last photo, it appears to be riveted to the spare tire carrier, as mine was.
    That is for the upper side. Then, mine was rolled into the wire at the bottom of assembly.
    Very messy.
    Except that if made in glass, it would not require much fastening as tons lighter.

    Thanks Kevin, they almost answer my questions, just a little confused at the bottom fixings and its interaction with the lower under tray, seems like these two items converge on the lower valance panel. A shot of your under tray and battery protection plate from below would be great................if poss. + what is the odd shaped metal strip that runs top and bottom on the 1st photo?

    Sorry for hijacking your restoration thread Alberto, but to help the battery cover discussion, here are a few more photos after early morning exercise to get that damn spare wheel out again ;-)

    Tony, hope these help. The cover is riveted to underside of fibreglass wheel cover. Rivets are same as those used in the spare wheel hold down threaded section. I am guessing the lower part is welded to the frame. Hard to see without jacking car up.

    Not sure what you mean by ...odd shaped metal strip...

    These are perfect Kevin, thanks so much for going to such lengths to photograph these. the bit i was confused about was the detail of the lower valance strip and the battery cover under tray, i can see how they overlap each other now. It seems to me that the battery heat shield is sandwiched between the two which would stop it rattling with just rivet fixings at the top.

    The odd shape strip is clear now, its the lower valance panel and cover.

    questionable. I still find the bottom strip odd as it it appears jury rigged.

    Undoubtebly Alberto, I have micro examined my car for rivets and it clearly has these so someone removed the shield many years ago. It's a definate must on the car otherwise battery failure will be quick if used regularly.

    I like the robustness of a aluminium plate so will try to make one to replace the original.

    From what i can make out it looks like the heat shield in sandwiched between the lower valance strip and the battery under tray with no actual fixings.

    I think you have the original? If not, very simple to roll your own and make the angle brake.
    If not I can pattern the curve and post it.

    making a pattern and the final piece and testing for snugness, fits a treat

    Nose is pretty much there. Photos not great, as phone photos not the best. Just received them.
    Closed the US spec side lights , and remade the EU front turn signal indicators.
    Now, a new grille, as the original was shambles, made to fit a terrible rhinoplasty :rolleyes:

    Looks so much as was intended. Now we are moving along to the various openings...
    I know, purists will cringe. Got the virus, and survived, now I can do anything :confused:

    Thank you Peter, dgt, and skippr, It is only a matter of getting a good paint match, then we're on.
    As far as the virus, be really careful. Catching it does mean you remain immune, then, there is 'brain fade' no fun.
