    To make cars better visible/identifiable when it is dark and they come back to the paddock.

    ... and perhaps make it easier/quicker to differentiate front tires from rears during pit stop tire change, especially at night ?

    Not found on the internet but taken today in Basel, Switzerland, at the official Ferrari dealership Niki Hasler AG:
    Very rare 1953 type 250 MM Berlinetta Pinin Farina #0298 MM. The only one with the extended nose (to resemble the 500 F2 nose, according to first owners wishes), built by Pinin Farina in time.
