looking at the (old) 328 gts register i noticed that not one 328 gts had a red leather interior.
I'm i wrong in stating that this is indeed pretty rare?

Mine has this color (OEM) and it looks great. I cannot believe there aren't more.

Most popular interior colors on the 328 are Tan and probably black because both were popular to combine with the two most popular exterior colors red and black. I've seen an all metalic black 328 that had an all red interior including the dashboard. I've also seen pix of a white 328 with red interior. My own 328 is has a crema and red leather interior from the factory with red leather dashboard, door pulls and map pockets. I've never seen a red on red 328 as in your photograph, but I've seen a red on red 308GTS.

Is the photograph of the 328 interior photo you posted from your actual car? If so is it the original interior? It looks like some parts of the car (such as armrests/map pockets) that would usually match the door panels and seats if the interior was originally red on an 87 328, are black. Also the leather trim on the center console and locking glovebox are black rather than matching the rest of the leather on the transmission tunnel. If you email Ferrari's Classiche Department they should be able to tell you the original dashboard color, carpet color, and interior color for your car.

    Best regards,
    Dino

yes it is an actual photo of my car and yes according to ferrari's info the car is delivred like this.
But, as i said i never saw another one like it so i was wondering if more hade one (or seen one)

BTW the color " came weith the car" i did not specifically looked for it, but i do think it's nice.

Meanwhile i bought a second F, a 1983 QV gts ,I fell for the outside color which is fly yello.
Funny thing: this car has a red interior too ( which i obviously like too)

attached a picture of my 308 interior.

appearently i have a thing with red......

I've also seen pix of a silver 328 with red interior and a yellow 328 with red interior. I don't think red interiors are rare on Ferraris, maybe just not as popular as tan or black. I personally like a red interior, provided it compliments the exterior color.
Here are some pix of my red/crema interior.

Red leather was usually combined with silver or white exteriors, both pretty rare in the US. I've seen a few. I once test drove a silver GTB with red leather but I really don't care for the shade of quite bright red used in 328's.

Hello all. I have finally entered the world of Ferrari. I just bought a 1989 328 GTS. I am having an impossible time finding a color palette for the rugs and seat leather so that I know exactly what colors I have. Mine is some version of tan (definitely not Crema). Any help?

Welcome in this world Ivan. Show us a photo of the interior of your car, so we could help you.
Note that the color could change over the time, sun and cleaning products that have been used. You will probably see some color déviations in some place after 30 years. I saw many 328 with Beige ( Tan) interior and many different shade, even it was same original Beige VM3218 code.

Ivan, the original color code could be written on the first page of the warranty book if it's still with the car.

Wow, I'm learning so much. This thread is much better organized than when trying to find info for Mustang and Delorean. I've done a lot of work on my Delorean and see a lot of similarities in the engine compartment. Big difference is 0-60 328 is 5.9 (GTS), Delorean is 9.5 secs!

I will look for the warranty book when I get the car. Thanks

From the pictures you have posted above, looks like Beige 4208 for the leather, Castoro 172 for the carpets.

Thank you! I have looked all over the internet for this info, very informative and concise. I will also need to touch up the "Ferrari" letters on the air cleaner box, so far I have only found one template that has additional text to the right of "Ferrari" that my box does not have. I am assuming the size of the "Ferrari" template letters is the same. If so I will order that template.

Ivan, just a very small detail: your "Beige" leather might still be 3218, and not the later 4208, depending on the date of production / chassis number of your car (last five digits of the VIN). Out of my memory, but there is a "service bulletin" with the exact info, the "Beige" leather changed at about car 79660, which is a december 1988 production car. After mid-december 1988, cars that have beige leather have 4208; earlier Model-Year 1989 cars, that is built from september 1988 to mid-december 1988, still have 3218 when they have beige leather . Your chassis number (last five digits of the VIN) is the key.

It is a gathering-up of much information by a group of friends, but "Triple Black" was, and still is, the driving force and the coordinator. Many persons wanted a book out of it, but the decision was to keep it on the 'net because it is more adaptable and more evolutive to new information that might come to light, and that we hope will come to light (see the opening page and the info that we are still looking for...)...(oh, and he is still pestering me to do the annex about tool rolls, by the way...but I am lazy...)

As I was researching this I thought leather 4208 and 3218 were the same just different leather suppliers, but I am ordering headliner material from Matteo at Reoriginals and he sent me a picture of leather color swatches showing these are two very similar but different leather colors. My VIN ends in 81814....thus with your info in hand, my leather color must be 4208.

Oh yes indeed. You can rest assured: my own #81085 already has 4208. As said by my friend Bertrand above, this is written on the order confirmation, and on the first page of the warranty card. 4208 is indeed a different leather and slightly different color, although from car to car, the color may slightly vary.
