I have a clients GTC that they pulled from another resto shop yesterday. The previous shop pulled the dash and put some new veneer on the dash wood and it is dark walnut. They dont like it and want the dash to be redone.

Does anyone know of the correct name of the wood that was original used. The color is going to an issue, as the back sides are usually lighter or darker than the front - just due to aging etc. So im trying to go back to the orig color and look/grain etc if at all possible.

Looking for a place to start and was wondering what info is available related to the wood type and color etc.

    Thanks in advance.....

Original interior throughout. (Aside from the rally clocks in place of the ash tray, which I have)

Let me know if you would like me to take more photos.

Unfortunately I can’t help you with sourcing the wood. I’d try calling some of the bigger name resto shops to see if they have any leads or sources.

    Good luck!

Doesn’t surprise me. That car was pretty rough...

Too bad considering how unique it is

thank you everyone who responded - pics are great source to establish the color i need

waiting for veneer samples to arrive, i found a word working shop close by that will work with me to apply the veneer when we select the right one and do the matt finish to it as well. I could just give it to them, but im too picky and hands on :-( ill work with them.

will provide pics when i get everything together.

post #8 and 10 look pretty similar in color - that is where im heading

another question - related to the steering wheels, were they matched at all to the dash color?

I have seen others (same car type) and some are darker, lighter when compared to each other - ill have to do the wheel after the dash and was just wondering about the wheel? From the above pics, the color on the wheel is on the light side, i have seen much darker wheels - although, refinishing them might have changed the tone?

The steering wheel came from another supplier and there was no matching involved to the best of my knowledge. The tone of the wood would depend on the species, the actual grain and source of the wood used, which will vary even for the same type of wood, and the finish will darken with age. I have not found any stain in general was used on the steering wheels, in my experience.
