I finally got my 458!

    After 3+ years of lurking and learning, I finally got my first Ferrari. I started the journey looking at F430s and was really close on a couple of them. Every time I got close, I was always thinking it was a "for now" car with a 458 being my end goal. Well, I found a 458 that was spec'd almost as I would have.

    It is a 2012 in Rosso Mugello
    Carbon seats
    Carbon steering wheel
    A bunch of other carbon bits

    I absolutely LOVE the color.

    My son and I few to TX and drove it home to MN (1K miles)...I can hear the gasps! I tell you, it was a blast and my 14yo son and I had some great bonding time! I wouldn't have wanted to do it any other way. So many memories.

    Congratulations on getting your first Ferrari! It looks awesome... I purchased my first Ferrari (a 2015 458 Italia) last December and I flew to Atlanta to pick it up and drive it back to Houston, a 787 mile epic trip in 18 hours.

    You will find that the 458 only gets better every time you drive it. It is the first car I’ve ever owned in my life that I never want to sell. It’s great that your son was able to make the trip with you. You will both remember that drive for the rest of your lives. Take care and best wishes for many exciting drives in your 458!

    That's right!!! and thanks! I'm kind of sad we are home. It was such a great trip. Of course we went through a McDonalds drive through (everyone does this right? lol), got egged on for a race by some sport bikes as were just getting to Olathe, KS for the night. Of course, we gave them a show...I got the jump, but they eventually caught and passed me...I'm sure they loved it. I stressed about leaving the car outside overnight at the hotel only to find out it was just fine by morning and stress was unwarranted. Then we had to drive in the rain and were both pleased that the car didn't melt as we feared LOL. These cars are not common in the midwest, so we had lots of paparazzi along the way, but they were respectful. This included my own personal paparazzi when I pulled into the driveway at home :)

    I looked at so many cars that were 8-10 years old that barely had any miles on them. I know it is said often, but people need to drive these cars. They are just amazing and such a joy. I can't wait to rack up more miles.

    "Coolest Dad" in the neighborhood for sure. Those memories will last a lifetime.

    Can't wait to share them with my 2 year-old daughter someday. Right now it's just "Papa's Lamborghini is so loud!"

    Nice work! I've been lurking also far too long and was primed until the pandemic turned up... it'll happen but my big issue with the road trip with one of my son's is that he is going to want to drive!

    It looks amazing in Rosso Mugello and even more so with the two tone Nero roof. Sounds like an awesome road trip with your son and one permanently etched in both your memory banks.

    Thank you! The roof is factory painted as well. I had always planned on a wrap if i didn't find a factory painted one. It really changes the look.

    I've got two older daughters and they came with me on a similar trip in 2013 when flew down and bought a super clean, low mileage 3/4 ton Chevy Suburban(strangely enough from Dallas as well). We drove it back to MN and talk about that trip frequently. Same trip, but different vehicle with my son...a vehicle that by itself is memorable. Add a 15hr road trip and yes, permanently etched in both our memories! :)

    Interesting side story. The 3/4 ton suburban only comes with a 6.0l gasser. They dropped the diesel years ago. After driving it home from TX, I shipped it to FL to Duraburb (duramax suburban) and had a Duramax and Allison transmission installed. It is how the truck should have come from the factory! What a workhorse. I've put 80k miles on it since the conversion and it has been perfect.
