    Hi All

So i am looking to buy my first Ferrari, well supercar infact having now owned 3 x V10 r8's , I was 80% of the way...

There is a fair amount of choice here in the Uk some Ferrari dealers and some specialist.

Being my first Ferrari i somehow have set my heart on red? It just feels right and adds to the special brand it has (imo)

I am trying to decide between three cars..

9800 mile 458 in Grigio tintanio, 4 owner car full history, nice interior, carbon seats, alcantara middles, alcantra door panel, rear panel and roof, few carbon bits. This is a non dealer car £135000

    Second car

7700 mile 458 in Rosso red,(this is now a main dealer so dealer warranty) 1 owner from new, carbon rear panel and front blades, nice yellow calipers (prefered) interior black leather carbon seats and black leather throughout £144000

    third car

17000 mile 458 in Rosso red, 4 owners from new, carbon everywhere, also some factory only spec option of red bits in the cabon, full charcoal alcantara ( not sure on this) with half leather £140000

I really like the spec and interior of the Grigio car but a bit of a shame its not main dealer supplied for warranty, i really wanted red which is putting me off. Yellow calipers suit it better

The 7700 rosso red car i like its just getting up there in price but 1 owner from new and low miles is a big plus, the spec is a little lacking inside

the 17000 mile car i do like because its got a lot of tick boxes (carbon engine bay check) the interior looks different which is interesting but i dont know

The ferrari dealer cars have better warranty and finance terms so the break in pricing isnt as much as it seems

    Thoughts please :)

Condition and service history most important followed by spec then followed by mileage. Lots of 458s out there. Spec is a personal choice. Good luck.

For me it was spec. I could only find the spec I wanted in a car with sub 2k miles, so I paid a premium for it. I drive cars, so I don't care about miles. 458's don't have many issues, so I didn't worry about service history, I just got a warranty for the first year. (I could have kept waiting for another to pop up, but the spec I like kept getting bought in under two days and one was coming up about every two months)

EDIT: I just checked right now, and there isn't one available on cars.com. If your spec isn't plentiful, you gotta dive on it when it shows up.

Condition and Spec. However, condition means actual condition of the car. Information such as age or mileage are just potential indicators of condition. Do not fall into the trap of thinking that the mileage is the full story of condition and base or decision entirely on a number - be sure to look at the totality of the car's condition.

For example, high mileage indicates that their may be more wear on the brakes. Yet if you inspect the brakes and see no wear, then obviously, your inspection becomes the primary indicator for brake wear. It shake my head everytime I see someone say "this car is my dream spec, and my mechanic told me it's in great condition! But it has too many owners and the mileage is kind of high, so I'm gonna pass."

My car had more miles than I wanted when I bought it (7500 miles) but the spec sealed it for me. The car had everything I wanted minus a couple of minor things I could live without. Also condition would be a deal killer for me. If the car wasn't 99% perfect I would have kept looking. So for me I guess order would be condition/spec/miles.

There are a lot of 458s out there....get the spec you love with the right service history and mileage.....at the end of the day the price difference won't matter and you will fall in love with it everytime you open that garage door.

Be patient. Wait to find one with (most of) the specs you want including colour. I waited almost a year before I found mine. What I had to compromise on is the lack of a backup camera, that’s it.

Spec, history, price and how those variables correlate with one another. The rest, to me at least, is of very little consequence in a mainstream Ferrari. Limited editions other variables may come into play.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.
