Early this week I got my 1977 Monte Carlo winning Lancia Stratos - a very nice model with only a few tiny flaws: the fuel filler caps should be hidden with white plastic covers, the Grp.4 Logo on the doors should be blue and not red, the rear license plate should have only one line (instead of 2) - see pics! This can easily be corrected using parts/decals from the Revell/Hasegawa kit. A little bit of paint touch-up in green (behind the side windows) and white (the surroundings of the non-retractable additional headlights - the matte black housing is correct) and voilà: a very nice replica of Sandro Munari's favourite rally car (in before-race-condition). So I can build my kit in another livery. The model cost me about € 40 including postage from an Italian ebayer (about 45 $) - not bad, eh? By the way, this model is "Made in Bangladesh".

The Opel test (4 models) in certain German cities has at least brought up a red and black 1970 Commodore A Coupé GS/E (issued under the WhiteBox name for € 24,95) - the original " German Muscle-Car " if you want: the coke-bottle shaped body was offered from 1966 - 1971 as Opel Rekord (2-dr, and 4-dr Sedans, a Station Wagon and a pillarless coupe`with moderate 4-cyl. engines), In 1970 they released the Commodore A as Sedan and Coupe with a 2,5 l - inline 6 with carburettor:115 hp or GS/E with 150 hp and fuel injection, good for max. speed of 200 km/h = 125 mph) - this was an upgraded Rekord with more power and several comfort goodies.

Two new for 2020 Ferrari's coming from Burago in 1/24th scale. Their quality has gotten a lot better over the last few years. I am very happy to see the Monza in 1/24th scale. This should be a good base. I love that car. I saw red and black versions of the real ones in person at a local dealer and it is an amazing looking car.

Tom is absolutely right with the quality of the WRC collection - yesterday i got the aforementioned Martini Lancia Delta (San Remo 1989) and the latest release: the 1980 Monte Carlo winning Fiat Abarth 131 rally of Walter Röhrl/Christian Geistdörfer - both very nice models - the Fiat has the correct (for this event) big taillights from the Supermirafiori (all plastic kits have missed this - ESCI, Revell and Italeri) - see pics!

Yes they are very nice. Although accurate as they used several styles of wheels during the MC race I prefer the other style wheels(same but wider than the production Abarth 131's). They also use good quality decals and printed graphics. Looks like a lot of effort was put into these models. Fernando Pinto(FPPM Model) says he used to work for Bizarre a company that was run by the same people as Hachette.

Tom, I think you mean these wheels (see pics) - the hachette models here all seem to be equipped with ultra-wide wheels used for the tarmac stages, whereas in Monte Carlo (winter) also different wheels and narrow tires for snow and ice (with studs) were used as well as at San Remo with its asphalt and gravel stages - this demands different set-ups (shock absorbers, wheels, tires) for different parts of the rally. Above is the hachette 1/24 1978 Le Mans winning Renault Alpine A 442 B - behind is for comparison Tamiya's old 1/24 kit built around 1985. Both have rather good proportions, whereas the die-cast is a bit longer and has a slightly smaller rear wing. Paint and decals of the kit have darkened over the years - I brushed the white upper sections carfully with enamel paint, oh well...
If the collection gets on a roll, I think we can expect some nice models - I really do hope that it will be released some time in the future.
(the Spanish collection seems to be limited to 70 cars, the last 10 are all re-pops of models that have been already available in the French series - unfortunately the rumours of further 30 cars = 90 total seem not to come into reality - probably due to the Corona pandemic?)

Yesterday a parcel from Italy arrived with the latest issue of the WRC collection: a very nice rendition of the 1983 Tour de Corse-winning machine of Finnish ace Markku Alén (The Rothmans letters above L'Equipe have been deleted - only a red blank - otherwise a good-looking, almost perfect die-cast which needs only a little detailing here and there) - see enclosed pics (made in Bangladesh) ...

I like the 037 but the rear wheel looks a little strange. All the rally cars are very well done.

So we have a official 1/24th scale rally series? I hope they also continue the Lemans 1/24th scale series.

I hope so because I'm mainly interested in rally cars from the '60#s to the 80's. The next issue in the Italian series will be the Peugeot 205 turbo EVO 2 from the Finnish "1000 lakes rally" in 1985(Driver: that year's world champion Timo Salonen)

Tom, do you have information on the correct color? I have seen paintings in red, dark red and dark blue-grey (apart from some b/w pics) - which color is correct?

It was medium dark red. The owner said he made a mistake painting it grey. He learned it was red after they were done with the restoration. You have a complete set of decals for that 2.9 MM on my Scale Designs sheet including chrome Touring logos. Also the Touring lightweight 1900's from 1952.

The latest releases have finally found their way into my collection:
First, the Alpine-Renault A 110 1800 (1973 world championship of makes winner; a driver's world championship has been introduced not earlier than 1979):
the model shows the '73 TAP (Portugal) rally winning car of Jean Luc Thérier: a wonderful model, very good proportions, fine details, exceptionally well done decals/printings and almost too perfect paint - I cannot find any faults with its perfect body, BUT: the stance is too high (it looks like it gets airbone over a high-speed bump - see pic) , the gravel tires are probably a bit too large, definitely too wide (with too small track width) - this could be altered in slightly lowering the stance - a further little detailing with paint inside will do the trick and will get you the definitive Alpine curbside model.
