I'm replacing the F1 accumulator as a maintenance item. I'll be damned if this thing is tightened to hulk force torque ratings. I'm trying to remove it using a rubber strap oil filter wrench with a MAC tools metal 3 claw oil filter wrench over the rubber straps. Is there a particular wrench that can fit over the hex fitting at the bottom of the accumulator? It would need to be oddly shaped indeed...

I just purchased a new accumulator and am curious as to what people’s responses are here.

For those that have removed the accumulator themselves - any rips/advice?

How did this go? I need to replace mine as well. Did you have to hook up a scanner to bleed the system, or is it as simple as removing the old and installing the new one?

release pressure first, or it will be a disaster

Open a bleed screw to ensure the system is at nil pressure. Not sure this will make it any easier to undo the accumulator, but it will certainly prevent the mess if F1 fluid if you uncrew the accumulator with pressure in the system.

If system is up to pressure, you have the 50 bar on the threads and it might just be solid

When you remove it you allow air into the system so it must be bleed afterwards just to be safe. It's wise to flush the fluid anyway, and preferably to refill with Liqui Moly which is genuine hydraulic fluid and not ATF ...

    Ray, which liqui moly? viscosity?

Nobody answered the how to remove question?

Crow foot socket, extension, and a 3/8 inch ratchet of somewhat reasonable length. You might need to remove a few things around the area to give adequate space. Oil fitler wrench is not going to do it.

That's what I did. The rubber filter wrench with three-claw filter wrench may work on a reasonably tightened accumulator, but a gorilla tightened mine at the factory and only the crows foot wrench worked. That also enabled me to torque it to the shop manual specification.

I also used a short cheater bar over the breaker bar before switching to the ratchet.

Dang, sorry guys but I totally thought I updated this thread but had merely responded to a question about the procedure some months ago and forgot to update everyone.

I went to NAPA and used the following and was shocked that it actually worked considering I had a lesser quality wrench of the same sort and it broke while attempting to remove the accumulator.

    Did you bleed the system?
Did you remove the pressure before doing it?

I flushed the system and replaced it with liqui moly hydraulic system oil. I should have done this first but I replaced the accumulator prior to flushing. In hindsight I will flush, then bring system down to zero pressure and then replace the accumulator.

A little off subject, I have a friend who's looking for a potentiometer for his 360. Is there an aftermarket one out there?
