Anyone see this on a GTC or other car?

The VIN tag has another tag below it - say FERRARI and something related to Shell etc......

This is a US delivered car, i believe, based on the tail lights and the dash gauges......not sure I've seen this type tag before? Looks orig to me, very faded of course...

    Thoughts why it is there?

Are you talking about my serial number or yours.....

Your number is much later and i would assume that is a 68 serial numb.

Ref, my clients car does your files say where and who original delivery

That tag is a euro delivery tag?

My serial number, 11157 built feb. 1968, I think it was about the 500th car built. I know the delivery name from the red book of odd numbered serial numbers.
I don't have the book handy to confirm but I think the name was Pendini in Italy, not sure if it was an individual or dealer.

    Exactly.

These are common tags in all/most Ferraris of the era, regardless of their originally intended market destination, although there are or were several variations of them.
They simply refer to what make and type of oil was in the new cars engine at the time of delivery and recommended by the manufacturer to be used during subsequent services, whether changing the oil or merely adding any if needed.

Thank you.....Any thoughts as to the criteria to apply these on the car?

Assembly line application or dealer application?

Interesting to see an early production "TIPO" designated as 365 GT, instead of 365 GTB/4 or GTB/S or ...

Perhaps I’m mistaken, but thought there might’ve been some similarly odd designation on some Spyder(s).
Anyway, I’ve never noticed/seen just GT before.
Just another wonderful eccentricity/oddity to already a huge list of discrepancies/inconsistencies.

Maybe that’s what I mixed up (in my hollow head) with various Spyder designations.

I don't remember whether Parker did or not. You might check with MPI.

Here is another Shell maintenance plate I have seen it on a few 250 GT’s. The engine photo is I believe LWB 250 California 1055GT - apologies, I do not know whose photo it is. On a Pf Coupe, I once saw this on top of the foot-well. Note that the plate also references the ‘4.9’. The detail plate photo is actually a reproduction plate, purchased many years ago, measures 152 mm x 76 mm. There were earlier 212 and 340 versions also. Yes, try the Kilimanjaro Designs catalog (now with MPI), Parker had the various plates.

Two interesting other features are the text in English and temperature references in Fahrenheits.
Perhaps suggesting market specific design for US (and/or UK ?) ?
