Wonderful documentary "The Big Six" by Cave Bear Films about Hugh Langrishe's role as Time Keeper for Ecurie Ecosse at Le Mans 1957 and his friendship with winner Ron Flockhart (partnered with Ivor Bueb), as well when the custodian of the 2nd place Number 15 car, Clive Beecham, reunited Ex Works/Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar D Type XKD 603, with Hugh.

What an amazing achievement it was that the Ex Works/Ecurie Ecosse D Types XKD 606 and XKD 603 were 1st and 2nd driven by Bueb/Flockhart and Lawrence/Sanderson with other Private Team D Types taking 3rd, 4th and 6th positions beating Ferrari's absolute finest 315S, 335S, 290MM and 250TR Works cars piloted by the world's best drivers, as well as the Aston Martins and Maseratis in the World's Greatest race. All us Tifosi here will appreciate and respect how The Big Sixes of the "D" beat the Mighty Twelves.

Olivier Gendebien can be seen in 0704TR in the film as well as other great Ferraris.

The 1st OA place at Le Mans in 1957 was Long Nose XKD 606 and is owned by the Louwman Museum in The Netherlands. Long Nose XKD 603 was 2nd OA ( see post 1). You are thinking of Le Mans, 1956 where Short Nose XKD 501 was 1st OA, Short Nose XKD 573 was 4th OA and Long Nose XKD 605 was 6th OA.

    got it...
you know how it is: i'm "REALLY," just a Ferrari guy.....501 is a stunningly easy car to drive as oppossed to contemporary Ferrari TEAM cars, I might add...
It was my REAL first upclose and intense evaluation of the D-type....looked in pasing many times in years passed-0even tried to by several...
What really hit me was the application of aircraft tech to cars in the sense of "superior air surfaces controls"...
Ferrari sports car chasis not built like this for nearly 10 years...
Jag engine like a tractor...but ability to get it to the tyre patch, control the patch, and STOP on the patch: wow, what an achivement...

Today Hugh Langrishe is 100 years old. For those of you who haven’t seen the video in post #1 by Miura SV, just listen to Hugh’s wonderful ability to communicate on motor racing with that truly wonderful voice of his. This man, who served in the Fleet Air Arm (Royal Navy Airforce) during the war, tells the story of Le Mans 1957 and his Friendship of Ron Flockhart who won the 24 Hours 1956 and 1957. Hugh was the time keeper in 1957 and one gets a hugely interesting perspective of what racing was like tin those far off days. His natural humility and decency is perhaps the most wonderful thing to witness, alongside some great colour film of Jaguars, Ferraris and Maseratis. Happy Birthday Hugh..
