There is a thread on this already, possibly started by me, but I can't find it. Michelin don't make PS4Ss in the standard 18 inch size for 575s. I have 2 questions:
    - is there any size of PS4S (not Ps4) that will safely fit the 18s on a 575?
    - Michelin say the PSSs that do fit standard 575s are not made for Ferraris but optimised for other manufacturers eg Porsche I guess. Is this a problem?
    Thanks.

I’m running PSS on my 550, stock 18” sizes, they are great. I think they are one of the best, if not the best option for the Maranello with 18” wheels.

Darius- No issue. I used MPSS tires (Porsche spec) on my 19" wheels for 5 years and they worked great. The MPSS first came out on the 599 GTO in late 2009, so there were no new Ferraris with 18" wheels built after that, but there were Porsches. Still great tires.

I, too, have MPSSs on my 550. I suppose that, as it's a long time since new Ferraris had tyres in our size, Michelin no longer bothers to make a Ferrari specific tyre due to lack of demand. As it happens, I can still get Porsche spec. 16" tyres (Contis) for my 30 year old 911. Maybe because there are more old 911s around and / or I fit German tyres to my German car?

Thank you everyone for your excellent replies. PSS it is.

One other question. I have a puncture on a rear tyre on the 575. Nail. I have repaired using a kit, but it will need a new PSS. (Others are all PSS). My choice during semi-lockdown is:

    1) Have the mobile guy who replaces tyres on my Mercedes come round and do it at home. Easy, no stress, but no balancing on ramp etc.

    2) Take it to tyre place. Usual virus risks, plus probably have to wait a couple of hours, with no cafes open so wandering around the streets. (Outdoor may be open, but this is England).

is there a big advantage in taking to tyre place? I guess also risk of jack damage for 1?

Darius- Usually you can do one repair professionally and be ok, but maybe not on a 575. I would take it to someone you trust not to foul up the lift and not to over-torque the wheel bolts. Take a book and find someplace where it is not raining on you. Depending on wear, you might want to consider replacing the tires as a pair.

Kwik-Fit doesn't match my idea of "someone you trust . . . .", but maybe your experience of them is different from mine.

If both rear tyres are almost brand new, then at least you should be able to get away with replacing just the one, or maybe even just a professional repair, depending on the location of the puncture.

Or you could try one of these:

I used a similar puncture repair outfit to make the tyre good. But as the nail was on the shoulder/sidewall, I understand it is not safe to drive a long time with the repair. I would be worrying every time I took the car out.

Kwik Fit Chelsea is recommended by Michelin and has a stream of supercars flowing in and out of it, although that doesn't necessarily recommend it I suppose. Would you go to your service agent?

My suggestion about the cycle repair kit was intended as a joke!

Yes, sidewall repairs are not permitted, only repairs to small punctures in the tread area, so you are in for a new tyre. I may be doing Kwikfit an injustice, and if that particular branch has regular experience of dealing with supercars, then they may well be OK. When I had new tyres fitted to my 550 last year, my local Ferrari agents (Carrs) fitted them for me, although I bought the tyres myself as it worked out cheaper that way (actually a lot cheaper, as I ended up with four new MPSSs for £160, plus £84 to fit them, but that is a long story).

If Michelin & you think Kwik Fit Chelsea have the experience go there - Pirelli's website has a list of their performance specialist centres which could be another solution (eg Kingston Hill) who I'm sure would also supply Michelin

John- Sounds like you knocked over a tire store to get that kind of price on MPSS tires.

John, it's a car tyre repair kit, same idea but bigger. My daughter fixed it for me as my DIY skills are akin to those of a stoned mole. I agree with Taz, that's quite a price for your MPSSs.

Now I'm worried about Kwik Fit over torquing the wheels. They've ordered the tyre in for me though.

It's a long story, but I'll try to keep it brief.

I ordered four new tyres on line, paid by Paypal. Two arrived OK, the other two were the wrong size. I contacted the suppliers and they agreed to send two more and collect the wrong ones. So far, so good.

The correct ones arrived, but they did not collect the wrong ones. Instead, they charged me for them! As I could not get any sense out of the suppliers, who continued to chase me for payment after numerous phone calls and emails, I complained to Paypal. Paypal refunded me the whole of my original payment!

The suppliers continued to harass me for payment for the wrong tyres and refused to take them back, despite having agreed to do so originally and even handed it over to a debt collector who started to harrass me too, adding their own charges to the bill. Still no dispute from the suppliers over the PP refund. So I contacted the MD of the parent company in Germany and threatened to sue him personally for harassment. That at last elicited a sensible reaction. I offered to pay for the tyres and keep them, if he confirmed that there was no money owing to his company (the PP refund seemed to have gone unnoticed, but I did not want to have any comeback later), which he did. I then put the tyres on Ebay and sold them. After sale proceeds, my net cost was £160, plus £84 paid to Carrs for fitting.:)
