Just finished filming the Timing Belt Service on my 360

I've done the video step by step as DIY as possible without the need for very expensive tools. Hope its good and easy to follow.

It's part of the full 'major' I've been filming on the other thread but thought I would do a separate thread to make 'timing belt change' easy to find when searched.

    enjoy

Ok I am into this job on my car. I am going to probably have a few questions along the way so I was hoping to put them in this awesome thread that Scott made. i am thankful for the great video. The service manual isn't as nice to pick through.

I am trying to get by without using the flywheel lock tool to isolate the drive train so I can remove the main driveshaft nut. My car is manual trans so is it OK to put into 6th and hold brake and go after that nut?

I have been trying to break that nut free set up as above. One thing I noticed is that the timing belts were not extra tight when I started but after wrenching hard on that nut with a breaker bar they are now taught. Is this telling me I need to buy the flywheel lock tool or can I go after this thing as is? I have been hitting the nut with PB Blaster a few times a day to prepare for the next level of bolt removal.

    Thanks for any input fellas.

I was given a great tip a while back by a professional Ferrari tech... there is an access hatch on the bottom of the gearbox to allow you to check the clutch wear. Remove that and stick a screwdriver (or similar) in there. As you turn the engine, it will lock between the clutch housing and the bell housing. Voila- engine locked. Perfect for removing the stubborn crank bolt.

Yes, that's exactly what happened to me in 2012 after a belt service...
My car lost it's F1 noise and it's power...
It took me over 4 years and 3 mechanics to finally fix it...

You will need to ensure the cams are degreed within 5 points of each other. Otherwise, it will set a CEL.

To be precise with the variator cams, you need a SD2 to read the degrees while engine is running. Roughly 660 is the value you want.

I always thought 657 was the number to aim for the exhaust camshafts...

    This is important!
I just had my belt service and the tech said the belt old belt was ok but it had nearly come off because it was so lose. The reason was that the tension bar needed to be replaced and had caused the belt to be so lose that it could be turned completely around-he took a video. The tension bar was original to my 2003 so he replaced it. So the message is-replace the tension bar each time you replace the belt.
