Where to Buy Dial Indicator That Fits?!

I am afraid it would be a custom made unit. A standard dial indicator works but it needs an extension and an adapter to fit in the plug hole. Ferrari had a tool from the factory and Hill Engineering makes the same kit. https://www.ricambiamerica.com/tdc-kit-01-top-dead-center-tool-kit.html $473.72 is a lot but it will show you what you need. I have machined my own plug adapter before, so it is not out of the question to have one made.

 

Hill Tool is a great unit for a Pro or serious DIYer. I have several Hill Tools.
Or Use MSC for Deep Reach Dial Indicator. Magnetic Base with Articulating Arm.
May have to have a steel plate machined to mount base. Not a lot of steel in a 360 engine bay.
Base plate and Magnetic Holder will also work to time cams if in your plan.

I just bought these..they come in 10, 12, 14mm thread sizes. Shopped from Poland.. 70 bucks each..much cheaper then the hill tool..

FWIW-in my own experience as a prototyping machinist-as well as lifelong Ferrari knucklehead-Polish equipment, while not having the rep that Swiss or Swedish equipment has, is in general terms: excellent, quality, with reproduceable numbers. FWIW-the finest, commercially available cast iron for engine blocks comes out of the Gdansk shipyards in Poland...and don't forget: cold war factotem: the MiG factories were also found in Poland-so there is ALOT of talent/skill there, otherwise Mercedes Benz wouldn't be having had most of the 198 car(300SL) parts made in Poland ..until the scandal involving bogus/fake cars was exposed.....
Best of all: its really cheap compared to the equivalent Mahr/Etalon etc, equipment.

Yes..10mm for the 360.

 

I ordered the 10 and 14 sizes, on my home made rig, I used the adaptors from my leakage tester to downsize.

I picked up the Hill Engineering set and the quality is beyond measure. I sort of justified the purchase since I use Mitutoyo Dial Indicators all the time when I'm machining or measuring but I didnt have a metric one! ;-) I will use the indicator outside of TDC functions so it made sense for me. If anyone is piecing together stuff the indicator is model No. 2330S 10 but it has a custom engraved backplate that says Hill Eng. Do your own DD if you go this way I am not sure what they might have had customized. It's a 30mm travel indicator with a removable tip that you screw the 165mm extension onto.

 

Probably same guy I got mine from with High-Accuracy German Gauges.

 

Can you confirm if the 10mm tool still works with the valve cover not removed? Looks super close by the picture, but I’m taking on the cam change and I would like to know if I need to also purchase the gasket set. Thx

I also sprang for the HE version. It's extremely well made and quite honestly, could have been more expensive considering it's application... even at $400.
