I've been using Redline 5w40 in my CS and was going to use it in the 355 this year. It's twice as much $$$ as the Pennnzoil Platinum Euro. Is it worth that much more ?

I have been using M1 5-40 TDT (Turbo Diesel Truck).
    It has the ::
    A) Viscosity
    B) HTHS
    C) ZDDP
that every high revving F355 desires.

Its only drawback is that it has a bit more detergents and acid neutralizers than necessary in a gasoline engine.

I have used just about everything (fully synthetic) on the street and on the track, including xxW-50 oils (too thick except for 100dF+ Texas summer track days) and a 5W-30 (that happens to have an HTHS of 3.8). I went back to M1 TDT mainly due to cost, shelf availability, and the availability of the data sheet (ZDDP and HTHS stuff)after I quit tracking the car so much.

The additional acid neutralizers are probably a good thing for cars that sit for long periods though, aren't they?

I use Torco SR-1R Synthetic Racing Oil 10w40 on my 95. Top off in between spirited drives. Anyone else use their products?

Pennzoil 5w-40 Platinum Euro with the Ferrari horsey on the front is readily available at AutoZone for around $9 a quart. If you hit a sale, you can get it for around $35 for 5 quarts AND you get a free Bosch oil filter for your daily driver... ;)

Annual fluid change is engine oil, every other is trans and brake flush. Running about 3-4k a year in the 355. 360 CH oil is changed after every 3rd or 4th track event.

Interesting. That's what I have been using in my Triumph TR8 for quite awhile now. Primarily becuase of the ZDDP.

Never thought to dump it in the Ferrari...hummmm

They indicate the operating viscosity when the oil is hot and the motor is having the snot run out of it--you know; like it was designed.

I don't use PR, and never had, because they don't advertise this critical number.
Without this number, there is no way to state that it is the best or ever a tolerably decent oil.

This also happens when an oil that is slightly thinner than spec is put in the engine: indicating the 5W-40 is probably closer to 5W-30 in actual viscosity measurements.

I will not touch Royal Purple for this exact same reason.

If someone gave me a case, I would put it in my lawn mower.

I am using Pakelo Krypton 5W-40. It's the first run I've had with it and I'll know more once I get it analyzed. I'm curious about the Shell Rotella T6 though.

XT or XT LA? Any reason for this oil? Cause it is made in Italy? ;)

You can find all the info you need on Shell Rotella T6 on bobistheoilguy.com Just do a search of the threads there. Plenty of used oil analysis.

What ever SN or SP rated 5W40 is on sale. At 1000 to 1500 miles per year it isn't going to make a difference.

It's the XT. Not sure of the difference between the two though. This is the oil my dealer is using and what the Challenge teams are running in their cars. I'm very curious to see how it does and I'm certainly going to check that website out for the reviews.

I'm glad to see this. I have been using diesel oils in cars with cats since I discovered them in 2012 at my 1st diesel truck oil change. Diesel oils are often "multi-fleet" and carry the SN rating ok for gas cars with modern emissions. Diesel oils have a wider range of available viscosity in my local stores that match what I need for my Ferrari and for my racecar. Diesel oils are also cheaper by a considerable amount and have a superior additive package as Mitch posted. People freak out when you put oil in your car that says diesel on it. All I can say is "race proven"! Blackstone reports are perfect too for a little objectivity...

I used to use Shell Rotella T6 but they removed the SN rating. I think that was more political as I have been told the formulation is basically, but I could not confirm it.

Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 ZDDP content changed as follows (results of oil analyses that I have):

2014: Phosphorus 1157 ppm, Zinc 1310 ppm ("old" Rotella) - very good ZDDP
    2017: Phosphorus 1049 ppm, Zinc 1095 ppm ("new" Rotella) - so-so
