Looking for a quick tap-in to get a hot 12v power supply preferable in the right rear engine compartment area for my 89TR.
Needed to power license plate flipper (used for car shows & events of course).
    Any suggestions.

Can't think of anything other than the starter. It may be better to wire the flipper into the number plate lights and just turn on the lights. What kind of current does your flipper draw?

Very little current draw, 8AA's batteries probably would run it, but would hate to put batteries in that hot eng compartment.

If the flipper only uses power for a second or two, I guess using the number plate light power should be ok. Fuse 13 does power quite a few lights though:

    side markers (front and rear)
    tail position lights
    number plate lights
engine bay lights (when lid raised)
other lights which I was unable to identify.

The 0.8mm^2 wire going to the number plate lights should be able to handle an amp or two. Do you need constant power for a wireless remote for this flipper system?

Yup, has to have constant power. Power to license plate light wiring would only be available if I have parking lights/headlights on.

Unfortunately, this car doesn't seem to have a battery bus bar in the engine compartment, say, like a F355.

There is really not much use for power to devices when the car is turned off. Hazard lights, cigar lighter, park light switch, headlight pod motors (down), clock, etc...

Here's the wiring diagram for the lights...

    ... and the starter:

EDIT: I just noticed hot 12 volts in the relay black box "137". There is a 10amp fuse inside the box with power on it. Is this closer to the number plate lights than the starter?

    @Qavion,
I'll check the relay box today for juice, if none it looks like I'll have to get it from the starter.
    Nice wiring diagram.

Sorry for the redundant thread post..

Upcoming work on a 512TR. I cannot find a picture or tell if it’s accessible with the engine installed… the Terminal box, Part 170114. Part #20
    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Wanting to source a new fused power source from within the engine bay. Would like to keep it out of sight and off the starter.

is this a reasonable location, or is there another way to run a line from the battery back?
