    Hi all..

ok so last Time I posted about this, it was suggested new pads.

    bought brand new pads.
Cooper greased them up. Even got the brake fluid bled and upgraded.
by the way, this brake bleed Improved brake pedal feel, Massively
Went from spongy to responsive and progressive. As it should be..

however, I cannot get rid of light pedal braking squeal. I have stripped down the brakes several times now trying to cure it. Without success.

Only time they stop squealing is when you really, really use them hard. but soon as they cool down a bit the squeaky returns.

I suspect this is an expansion issue.

would backing plates solve it ?

it has been strongly suggested to me the carbon discs are at fault. Not worn as such, but maybe contaminated.

amd I should swap to steel rotors.
Which I quite liked the thought of.

a lot cheaper I assume and I can save the CC for When the time comes to sell...

along with a squeaky brake solution, does anyone know where I can buy steel rotors?OR
    backing plates for the pads.?

    eurospares don’t do them...

Looking forward to hearing from you...
    Thanks

    Nick

I have the same problem as you. I just purchased my 2011 California this weekend, but so far, the brakes squeak like crazy at low-speed stopping. I have yet tried to bed them, but hopefully, that solves it.

I will be following this thread to see if anyone has suggestions.

Carbon ceramic brakes have very little dust, but on my 2013 California 30, they would squeak from time to time. I found that rinsing the brakes (when they were cool) with water would cure the problem, for a while, until they got dirty again and they would squeak. You want to be very careful about using any sort of wheel cleaner on these brakes, last thing you want to do is damage those rotors, they cost a fortune.

On my Cali T, the brakes never seem to squeak.

CCM brakes squeak. Basically the trade off of low dust and light weight rotors.

Try a few I speed stops to transfer some pad to the rotor. That helps sometimes.

My real advice. Just get used to the squeak. Not much else you can do.

    Thanks guys...

going to try the washing down method

the high speed stops does not really work. Soon as they cool down, they squeak again.

    anyone use backing plates ?

Fresh water rinse (when cool) is the only thing I have found to help. I use a regular garden hose with a jet nozzle. It seems to last a couple of days. I daily drive close to 500 miles per week.

Brakes are silent on my Cali T ?
Did they make a change in the system or pads?

Can someone please make a video of this squeaking.
I read about it all the time. How loud/persistent is it?
I get a little squeak from time to time, but nothing that would "drive me crazy."
Full disclosure, I am a bit hard of hearing! :D

Steve had recommended putting some water on it and I just tried this. Pulled the car out with the brakes cold, washed them down with a hose, and then took it for a drive. Worked like a charm! No squeaking at all! Not sure how long it will last for but worth giving it a go.

Mine was pretty noticeable. Enough where it was somewhat embarrassing as you pulled up to a stoplight.

    Ok..

so, the water method worked !!!
    amazing. Thanks.

however, only for a day. After about 50 miles it came back.
Maybe become I could only wet the outside of the discs and pads down. maybe if a reach both sides that would help...

Makes me wonder if it’s dodgy Pad material or Contaminated ?

not had chance to do the video yet though

Partial success! The "squeaky brakes" complaint seems to pop up so often here and in so many different models that it has to be intrinsic to the carbon brakes that F uses. At least that's my guess.

either you get used to it or you get crazy. i did bedding and stops at every speed including 300 to 100. goes away for a while, then comes back.

porsche had a video basically saying there is no cure.

As I mentioned, my 2013 Cali 30 was prone to it, but it would go away (for a while) if I rinsed the brakes.

My 2015 Cali T does not squeal at all and never has ... I keep the car garaged and only drive it in fair weather with waterless washes, so there are definitely plenty of miles on the brakes without rinsing and they have been fine. Perhaps they did make a change for the T.

LOL. I suspect they made this video to send to dealerships, so that way when trophy wife/husband comes in to complain about brake squeal on their Porsche, they can show them the video and say "Sorry folks, our egghead scientists say break squeal is like COVID-19, no known cure!" ;)
