I bought 5 or 6 dummy plates year ago they where 5 bucks then from Eurospares I posted like thinking they where the same price 70 bucks no way !

mount an LED in it. who knows what it is and who will care if it lights up or not.
Street rod parts houses have push in ones. Easy fix.

 

pop it out...... fill it in with 2 part expoxy filler.... or gorilla glue... let it set.... sand it down.... repaint it black..... re-install.
