Looking at the pictures from Zeltweg and reading that some drivers preferred to stay in their own motorhome as opposed to the prescreened hotels made me wonder:

Obviously they are super concerned about getting Covid-19. Given that they are all mostly young and athletes should put them at a very low risk to die. So why the worry? Then I realized the new rules the teams/FIA set in place: If a driver becomes sick, he will be replaced by the backup driver. So of course nobody wants to catch the virus.

Add to that the still unclear picture of how many races will be organized and the fact that this season will be a good deal shorter and timewise compressed, being out sick with Covid could severely curtail the chances for a particular driver to win the WDC.

Bottom line is: This season has a much bigger chance of producing an unexpected WDC. Maybe not the fastest guy, but the guy who stayed away from Covid trouble throughout the season. We'll see.

The title requires health, luck, no mistakes and reliability along with good qualy. Good pitwall input/strategy will be key with fewer races.

They do not want to be unable to drive for 6-10 weeks.
