Sound isn't the primary component that I look for in a car. With apologies to many members here, hearing about sound sound sound, its getting a bit tiring.

    Speed- more important than sound
    Comfort- more important than sound
    Acceleration- more important than sound
    Handling- more important than sound
    Looks- more important than sound

Sound is important but when I read posts like - I dont care how fast the car is, I just want it to sound good- it reminds me a of a lowrider with a muffler scraping on the ground going 15mph down the strip.

I know this is not a popular opinion amongst some here but I also know there is a silent majority who is tired of hearing how bad the current crop of cars sound when in every other aspect they are far superior to the beloved 458.

    Flame suit on.

  2. Only thing more important than sound is the cupholders.

    Gotta have great cupholders.

Can't drive without my Starbucks. Or Big Gulp. Or both.

I agree with the OP. Sound is overrated. But, these are opinion threads.

I think this is a over-simplification of the argument for sound. In my mind the argument is more like: is the gain in performance worth the loss in sound? At what point do the gains in performance become obsolete? Most drivers could not properly access the performance potential of a 360 let alone a 488.

After so many have complained about the endless, never-ending, repeated back-n-forth bickering in countless threads about sound, and 458 v. 488/F8 you decided to just go and start another utterly worthless thread about how you don’t care about sound.

    Well...so what?

I dare to say this, if this had not been said before by any guru before.

Driving a sport car without proper sound is like having sex with a woman who does not make any sound at all. Or just try mute and unmute when you watch porn. That is the difference.

F8 is like a hot lady that you always wanted, but when you finally get her in bed, you'd be like, hey say something, then when she finally starts to moan, it sounds like a dude!

So I will keep my 458, thank you very much, because she screams so good. FF, even though she may be uglier, but she is so good in bed, oh I mean, to drive with that noise.

    I am also bored...

    lol lol lol!!

However consider this. You have Subject A. Let’s call her Rosie O. Not the slimmest or best looking subject but she can moan like a banshee in bed.

Or you have subject B, lets call her Cindy C. Slim, great looking but a bit quieter, especially in bed.

Who do you want to sleep with?

I'm coming from a Huracan that had a Fabspeed exhaust and VF supercharger, car was very loud along with the pops crackles. Was fun at first but got very old as time went by. When I decided it was time to move on I looked at a couple cars including 458 and 488, quickly crossed 458 off list as felt slow, didnt like it's dated look and lack of tech. I have liked the looks of the 488 since it came out and found a local one in a color that I loved. Was sold after test drive, car was extremely fast, it felt as fast as my 800hp Huracan and unlike the 720s and 600 LT I had test drove the 488 had zero lag. The tech in the 488 is decent and was surprised for the first time I fit very well in a car with race seats that were very comfortable. As far as sound I did the exhaust mod first week of owning car and with valves always open I find the car has good sound, maybe not as good as the 458 but for me there is no comparison between the two

the thing is any car can be fast in the modern turbo era. An M5 with a flash tune or Tesla p100d will run a mid-10 1/4 mile (same as a 488). I had a modified GTR before i sold it for my 458, the GTR was easily the faster car with 620whp. So that whole feeling of being pushed into your seat doesn't do much for me. The 458 with traction off at full tilt down a twisty road is still a handful of a car, and i prefer the direct NA response it has coming out of corners.

everyone has different wants or needs with their car. thats what makes the world go around. I love my turbo f80 m3 as a sidekick to my 458.

Oh man, this thread does not disappoint.
I was going to make the comparison to watching a dogfight in the movie Top Gun on mute, but I guess one can have the same aural blue balls (blue ears?) watching a catfight on mute.

I think I'd break down the automotive experience to 3 components:
    Performance (acceleration/speed/handling)
    Appearance (pure cosmetics)
    Interface (ergonomics/tech/amenities/daily drivability)
Sound (yeah, I think it gets it's own category)

    Nope. 4 components.

Score each on some arbitrary scale and add it up. High score is the car for you.
VW ID R is bonkers performance which compensates for the lack of ICE and poor daily drivability.
Tesla anything goes kinda quickly, briefly, but performance cannot compensate for lack of sound.
355 w a tubi may be slower performing than a 458, but at WOT all is forgotten.

    ...and on and on...

Oh, and the 458 is basically the Golden Girls at this point.
Speciale is Betty White getting sassy.
    ;)

(I also have too much free time.)

I feel the exact same way as you, but I still have my Huracan in my garage. I should've sold it before we got stuck w/ Covid. The car is just too loud for me to enjoy it. My 488 w/ valves open sounds much better to my ears. Had a 458 before Huracan. Enjoyed it while I had it but it was getting too dated for me, no regrets.
