Hi, I have my first Ferrari and am not entirely familiar with normal operating sounds etc. Everything sounds/performs ok to me but I do hear a specific whine noise from what sounds to be right rear axle, transmission differential etc area at exactly 79-80 mph cruising gently at highway speeds smooth road in either 5 or 6th. This is the F1 transmission. If I put it in neutral and coast through those speeds I don't hear it, but it is in both gears steady cruise that it is prevalent and seems to be slightly getting louder with time. 17K on vehicle. had a new pump put on a year or so ago prior to sale. Computer says about 60 % clutch life. anything to worry about? kinda annoys me so I don't cruise at that speed. Thanks for any info advice etc. rear tires are new Hankooks with good tread. Do not have any nearby service centers in my area.

    Hahahaha!!
I have the SAME noise in my car...
    It's a 2007 F430 with 24k miles

Your question makes me feel better cause I'm not alone!

Seriously? I would think wheel bearing noise would be present at other speeds and while coasting. In my experience bearing noises are a grinding type of sound. Silent then. It’s a whine steady pitch at specific speed. Engine mounts replaced with headers.

Haha, already changed both engine and transmission mounts and had zero effect on 6th gear whine around 80 mph. Also had car converted from F1 to manual and again no effect. I suspected transmission needed rebuild or maybe diff but a couple of mechanics told me nothing out of ordinary. Changing transmission oil when I first bought car decreased whine a little...

not a wheel bearing because doesn't happen in 4th gear and barely in fifth... it's transmission

It's most likely the ring and pinion. Lots of folks have this problem (including me). There are other threads on this topic. There's really not much you can do about it short of a new transmission because the OEM ring and pinions are not available.

I may have the same "whine", but when mine does occur it's dependent on RPM, not speed. I'll sometimes get the "whine" above 6000rpm regardless of gear. Other times, nothing.

I think it is the pinion/ring and jsut avoid the narrow range where it oddurs. It is only about a 2mph range around 80 where it occurs.

I have a 2005 since new. Mine has ALWAYS had a whine at cruising speeds at slight throttle. It has not changed over time. I think it occurs when there is little to no load on the drivetrain components. My car is a 3 pedal so I don't think it has anything to do with paddles.

Coming to same conclusion. Thanks for reassurance.
