There are several layers to this. If you actually have a spare key, I believe the Lonsdor will identify the key code. In my case I had the key code for my car’s Vin #. I took my car to a locksmith here that had this particular device. I live in a city that does not have a Ferrari dealer so this was a relief. It took the locksmith 15 minutes and my spare key was operational. If you don’t have the key code to your car, from what I have read the locksmith should be able to find out through the Lonsdor. I paid $320.00 for the programming. Being that it would have cost $1200 to go to a dealer to do the same thing I felt it was a bargain. Personally I would not spend the money on the Lonsdor which is over $800.00. Check with an independent shop to find a locksmith that is equipped to do this for you. I did this and saved a bunch of money. Good luck.

    High Michaelo,

THANK YOU for the reply. I checked with the dealer and informed me that it would cost me around 2500$ and I randomly checked an independent shops which they only can copy the key but not programming the remote.

I will check again for another independent shop and hope to find one near me who can do it.

    Thanks

Dealer prices amount to extortion. Good luck on this. There has to be a locksmith somewhere with the Lonsdor to program the key.
Did the dealer give you a quote to get a spare key? They have the ability to match the Vin # of your car to the key code.
If you are able to get a spare key through Ferrari, which might be a little costly, I know that you would save a lot by having a locksmith
    do the programming.

If I am correct, the Launch X431 Pro Mini can program the keys. I have never done it (thankfully don't need it), so can somebody confirm if it is in fact possible?
If so, how? I think there is a direct button for "IMMA" or something like that (or is that my bank account HAHAHA), through the "special functions".
I would love to know how to safely do it, so I can help others if necessary. The first time I attempted it, I would want to do it in a dealer parking lot, lol. If it's like other cars, I think ALL keys may have to be reprogrammed again if a new one is added (not sure if true with Ferrari though). Sounds scary because if it's true and you mess up, you will need a flatbed

I recently bought a 2011 458 that only came with one key. I discovered that without paying ridiculous costs, it is pretty difficult to replace the spare key. The dealer wanted about $1700 for the key and another $350 to program it.
Reading through this forum and everywhere else I could find, it seemed there was a lot of misinformation and just overall confusion on if a key could be made outside of an authorized dealer. I decided to try.

I found an aftermarket key on Amazon for less than $50 and decided to see if I could get it cut and programmed. I told the dealer about my $50 key and they offered to try and program it, for $350. However, they didn't have a way to cut it.
I went on a long search of locksmiths in the area to find one who could cut and also hopefully program the key. After many many rejections, I came across someone who claimed they could do both, cut and program a Ferrari key. Cost would be $420 using my key.
Long story short, he was successful. He came to my house, cut the key and then with my fingers crossed, he successfully programmed the new key and the original key. I now have two fully functioning keys!

I will post a video he took of the steps taken with my car so people can see that with the right equipment, it can be done. He used an Autel MaxiIM I think IM608, but not positive. There were a lot of steps involved, with correct answers and buttons pushed to be successful. So, I would assume there is a learning curve or a knowledgeable operator is required. I am located in Southern CA and it looks like he supports a lot of that area. I attached a picture of The Key Maker's business card. It says he is an Automotive Locksmith and Diagnostic Expert.

I hope this helps to clarify that yes, you can get a key cut and programmed for Ferrari's!

Added a link to a quick video of the process to create my key. Not sure if this link will work as it is on instagram.
