I am currently doing a full restoration on one of my cars and I am personally playing a minor role by cleaning and restoring various parts and components. I’m curious if anyone can recommend products that restore the “blackness” to plastic pieces that have turned gray, cloudy, have faded and oxidized from sun exposure. By example, please see two different round air vents from my car - the first that shows the middle plastic ring as it should be, the second showing the plastic ring suffering from the condition in question. Any advice on what I can use to restore the dark matte black color? Thank you.

I've found that Back to Black works well on daily drivers. Worth a try for ~$5.

    I would recommend Gyeon Trim.

Back to black works well but with a quite shiny result. I’ve used protecton Matt from swissvax too.
More expensive of course, but worked very well for interior trim, including air vents

Interesting stuff. The nano particles just might be the secret ingredient. Thanks for mentioning.

I also discovered a bottle of Meguiar's Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer that I happened to have on hand. Costs ~$10 per bottle. Have been very satisfied with it, too.

I’ve tried many black trim restorers and none seem to last very long, don’t restore very well and most don’t cover places where there is left over wax residue, white edges. This stuff is the absolute best trim restorer I’ve ever used in 30 years.

Too good to be true? It works, hands down with a caveat. It’s different than the all the rest. It is actually a black liquid like ink. It’s very messy, use gloves. The directions say to tape off areas next to where you will apply it (while using gloves). I didn’t do that, I just wiped off the excess where I got a little bit on the paint, and this was a white suv. Wear gloves, did I mention that (?) and have some paper towels or rags available.

I never heard of this stuff until mentioned above, no affiliation in any way. I bought it off of Amazon, it’s a small bottle but seems to go a long way. The black plastic trim looks like it came off the factory floor. Just perfect.

Once in a blue moon you stumble across something that makes you go wow...

    Thanks APA#1 for the lead.

Has anyone used this for rubber window trim and windshield trim?
