Hill was never the great driver the Brits like to think he is, he got the boot because he lost a championship or two with the best car. Jacques Villeneuve was simply faster and younger, and went on to win the title in 97 only in his second season in F1. So Williams did succeed after Hill, though when 98 came around they had to change the engine (when Renault pulled out from F1), and it was all downhill from there.

Hill was garbage however he only lost 94. 95 Benetton had the best car imo.

I was being (a bit) facetious but, yeah, for whatever ever reason these decisions were made, it was maybe not fair to the driver.

In his book, Newey talks about these and he was especially bummed out by the Hill episode. All this to say there’s not a easy way to end a relationship and so Ferrari shouldn’t have to account to anyone for how they handled the Vettel situation - they did what they felt was needed.

Heck yes. He made more mistakes than stroll as a rookie last year and started the same this year.
I refuse to think that a 4Xworld chamois or wasting overrated but likely his championship were readier to win than senna’s or Prost.
Looking back he always made mistakes but he seemed to have lost any edge he had mentally

Imagine if Seb does go to Racing Point/AM and starts beating Ferrari.

Specially if they keep copying Mercedes... isn’t there a lot of regulation change next year though? Might change things too

There would be much gnashing of teeth.... I would love to see that for the drama of it all even though I’m a Ferrari/Charles Supporter.

Ending 2021 into 2022 is the regulation change.

They moved it one year due to COVID-19.

They need to end the 2021 regs after this year regardless of COVID
The sport is boring with the same drivers winning
(This coming from a huge Ferrari fan so of course I am bias!)

Ferrari has been coming apart after MS decided to retire and RB and JT left team.

It is just too sad. I think it’s the management issue.

Sorry, but Damon Hill was not garbage! He was an excellent tester (which brought him to Williams), a fast driver, and a good qualifier.
His only weakness might have been in wheel-to-wheel combat where he wasn't as aggressive as some - same for Coulthard really.
Ironically, Frank Williams took the decision to replace him early in the season when he became world champion.
His much heralded replacement, Hans-Harald Frentzen won only 1 GP for Williams and faded into oblivion without delivering much.

    And ^^, of course.

Hill and Villeneuve both were flattered by the utterly dominant Newey-designed Williams and proved their true worth in subsequent years.

It's logical that the best car/driver combination wins.
Were you complaining when Schumacher won 5 consecutive titles too?

Him and button are 2 of the weakest world champion of the modern era. Not bad drivers per se but anyone would have won the title in their cars that’s pretty much a given.

That's something that is said very often these days, which wasn't heard years ago (20 or 30 years back) / "Anyone could win in THAT car".
This is just a cheap shot to denigrate a particular driver some people don't like or appreciate.

First, ask yourself these questions: How that driver got a set in that car? Why did the team chose him? How did he get to that position?
You will find he wasn't picked up at random in the streets, but more likely climbed his way to F1 after many years of graft, and some results along the way.
Second, ask also why his team mate didn't win instead of him on the same car, since ANYONE could have won?

I cannot find any explanation why Damon Hill or Jenson Button could be judged "weak" in any way.
I think that apart from undeniable skills, they did show determination.

Damon Hill was promoted Number One at Williams after Senna's death, and picked up the team. He missed the championship following a controversial incident at the last race. He kept on to win his title in 1996, against a strong team mate, and in spite of hostile atmosphere at Williams. That shows some grit to me.

Jenson Button lost his seat at Honda when the team packed up. He accepted to race on a point-reward basis for Ross Brawn who picked up what was left of the team with new Mercedes engine. They had a low budget and less resources than the opposition, but Button still managed to lift the championship. I don't call that being weak.

As I recall, Hill raced in the pre-Sky era?

I think most Brits wished D.Hill well, and he did win a WDC. Like Jensen really. I don’t think anybody thought he was a potential GOAT. His father was held in high esteem.

Anyway, it seems to me that there are two national media’s with clout. I read both (thanks Google Translate) and on balance the UK one is less damaging to Ferrari than the Italian one.

Those who don’t like the UK media should invest in getting one of their own up to speed.

Turning this debate into an “evil Brits v Ferrari” conspiracy trope seems a waste of time.

The bias (real or imagined) of SKY is so far down SF’s extensive list of problems It shouldn’t ever register.

It happened when Massa went to Williams in 2014.

But in the end things went back to their natural order.

Ok Damon hill wouldn’t have been in f1 if it wasn’t for his last name. That’s number 1
Number 2 u seem to forget that 94 wasn’t even close at all. To Rmbr the last race would b foolish. He needed multiple suspensions to Schumacher to
    Make it even close.
95 he got completely humiliated by Schumacher and I don’t like the dude.
96- He was challenged all year by Villeneuve and won the championship.
97 onwards not much except a spa win because of team orders from Eddie Jordan who told Ralf not to
    Attack him.
To your question about why his teammate didn’t win? Well I seem to Rmbr that 93 Prost won, 94 the goat Senna passed away and 96 his teammate gave him a run for his money inspite coming from the US and having never raced in F1.
Cherry on top, have u ever seen Hills time on the top gear race track? I’m teasing but barely.
On to button. Button was a better driver and pretty good in the wet and changing conditions and he managed to beat fair and square Hamilton...however his body of work...8 poles, 15 wins in 309 races.
In 09 he benefited from a car where he won 6 out of the first 7 races and then nothing for the next 10 races of the season...No wins and just 2 podiums: hardly greatnesses when you have such a dominant car.He finished 18 points clear of an aging Barrichello whilst Schumacher in 04 as an example, beat the same teammate by 34 points. Good driver but just like hill or rosberg not what I’d call a memorable champion.

Given Aston will have this year’s Merc without spending tokens and Ferrari will be pretty much the same he would start lapping us
