16M... Understood. But the operative concept you raise is “track focused.” What does that really mean? You mean: Lighter, more power, better brakes, overall best and most trick technology they had at that time, more carbon fiber design elements, lower ride height, tighter suspension, better breathing exhaust (more sound...this was 2009 pre-Euro anti-sound war), faster shifting, and more aggressive styling. Basically, a better 430 Spider in all regards. Check. Yep...the one to have. (And, if you argue less creature comforts I’d point out my 16M has Italian leather interior and upgraded sound system.)
Track focused , harder core, less creature comforts, weight reduction, greater power, more emphasis on performance than comfort, greater steering and suspension feedback, chassis rigidity. An open air car compromises virtually all of the above.
This nonsensical post is not even remotely close to reality. You clearly have never spent any time in a 16M.
Not sure I would disagree with any of those conclusions (except maybe comfort?), but I do think sound is crucial for one primary reason, it can provide significant pleasure without having to risk jail time. No joke, I can gently accelerate in my Performante to less than 45mph, and it just makes me giggle like a school boy. I am stuck in a state that has onerous speeding laws (the officer that pulls you over at 15+mph or 80mph+ has complete discretion to assign a criminal reckless driving Class 3 misdemeanor) and so I spend most of my time, sadly even on “spirited drives”, within those legal constraints. I need noise to create a heightened sense of speed. It’s almost like a cheat code of sorts.
On the topic of sound, forced induction can by made to sound quite spectacular. I offer this example.
My dealer got his second allocation a few weeks ago (non Golden Ticket) and gave it to me. Told him I'd pay sticker, but we'll see when it get's here. Ordered the spec exactly how I wanted it. Sept/Oct build will still be a MY20. Had to toss one in garage--I mean come on V8 w/ 760HP NA...yes pls.
Yes, but that engine is supercharged, meaning it doesn't have a turbine on the exhaust manifold muffling the sound.

Super Charger , it doesn't interfer with exhaust I build myself a 500 whp MR2 with a Rotrex supercharger and a 8500 red line and it sounded way better than all the Turbos out there.
Sound is 100% subjective friend. No need for flame suit. Only right answer when it comes to sound is what you prefer.
Driving a sport car without proper sound is like having sex with a woman who does not make any sound at all. Or just try mute and unmute when you watch porn. That is the difference. Never seen a better one, thanks fellow member IloveGT !
I don't care how fast the car is, I just want it to sound good!!! I don't care to go fast, just wanna feel like i'm going fast. I currently have a 458 and my 430 just sounded way way better. Even my wife is like , " where's the sound". I agree the 458 has more creature comforts , but honestly , i have all that in my tesla or cadillac. Don't get me wrong, i love my 458 and at some point will have to drop some cash on it to make it sound better. So again, BRING ON THE SOUND!!!!!
Funny thing is that given full beans, a stock 355 sounds puny compared to a stock 430, which sounds puny compared to a stock 458. I guess that the quicker cars aren't driven as hard (as they reach high speeds much easier-quicker), that's why we get these comments.
