When you put the car in neutral and turn it off, I believe that message comes up. Turn the car off while in reverse, or first gear.

It always comes up on my 2016 T when I shut it off in neutral. Not a problem.

But when it's in car wash mode, the parking brake is not set, correct?

I probably need to read the manual for the correct stopping procedure when the car is in the garage.

Manual is not often much help. F-chat is the central repository of all things useful! :)
I always turn it off in 1st, since I pull into the garage head on.

Don't do anything after you pull in -- i.e., don't pull the paddles, just turn the car off.

My new Alfa Giulia works the same way, interestingly. Must be an Italian thing.

Ok, I presume parking brake comes on automatically even in first ?

    Don't know.
I always pull the hold button after shutting down and turning off the key, as a matter of routine.
I think the answer is yes though.

Is there any way to manually engage either a "Park" setting or the parking brake without turning off the engine? e.g. if I'm waiting outside somewhere but want to keep the A/C and other systems on.

Yes, pull the parking brake lever and the dash will say "hold" ... if you open the door, it goes into "park" with the car idling.

That should be in your owner's manual. In my Portofino the switch for that is on the lower left of the dashboard.

I had to learn to resist the urge to pull both paddles to put the car in neutral and apply the parking brake and struggling to get the key out because I was in car wash mode. Turns out that just turning the car off takes care of everything for me.

"Car Wash Activation Mode" is such an odd term. I guess it is for those car washes where the track pulls your car through, but I don't think I'll ever take my Ferrari through one.

So if in first gear, eliminates the car wash activation mode ? Very annoying

Annoying because you want to use the car wash feature? Or just annoying to turn off the car when it's in drive? It's become a reflex for me now to just switch the key off when I pull into the garage.

I'm not even sure why car wash activation mode exists, honestly, I don't take the Ferrari into an automated wash but as with any other car I would just leave it idling in neutral (and sit inside it).

It allows the car to be moved with the engine off.

With its mystifying name and scant documentation it seems like it might allow new owners to have their cars roll away unexpectedly, too ;)

They should probably change the name to "WARNING: Parking Brake Not Set Mode" :)
