Wondering why a lot of older Ferrari’s don’t have the blue factory seat belts?
    Most changed/updated etc etc.

    blue??

was the installation of seatbelts a dealer things? I getting close to wrapping up a clients GTC and was thinking today - we need some seat belts for this car......the mounting on the rear side panels has 3 mounting bolts (right below the rear quarter window)

where else would they mount......assume i need to make a provision for this?

I believe seatbelts were not required in the US until 1968, not sure about other countries. Before then, I would guess they were dealer installed?

My 1969 365GT had the Klippan system, I think (replaced it with an inertia reel system which I think is much more usable)-- the old belts were fixed.

I just bought a 1968 Mercedes 300SEL which also has Klippan belts... it had a brochure from the US Government describing "new safety features required for 1968" which included seat belts.

Do you have a picture of the mounting holes with the interior removed? I really want to install 3 or 4 point belts in my recently acquired GTC. I did see there is a stout support bar in the trunk that could be used.

out of the times, if not all the times i have seen belts installed, it is usually with one bolt. So i assume either bolt
    would be sufficient IMO.

Related to the interior panels, i have also seen that they are already provisioned with holes in them, ill get pics of the back sides of each, the bottom piece and the top piece to accommodate the bolt or bolts coming thru. let me get those pics today for you

Thanks. I guess I really don’t need new panels as the seatbelts will be permanently installed.

Thanks, Ed. Looks like someone just ripped out the holes by hand.
Need to install some form of standoff to attach the seatbelt end to.

im making some plates that go on the outside of the black upper interior molding, it will have 2 holes in it for the mounting bolts, so the look is a better look than having bolts sticking thru - with or without seatbelts. Prob have them out of alum and black hard anodized for a nice look

ill send u pics when ready

don´t think so, bolts for seatbelts are always inch sizes

OK, I've installed "3 point" retractable seat belts in my 330 GTC that I'm documenting on a separate thread.

Regarding the bolts: 10mm and 12mm of any thread count would not fit into either hole. One of the holes takes a 3/8-16. I got some grade 8 bolts at the hardware store.

The other bolt hole was something completely different. Is it possible that it's a Whitworth thread?

On the driver's side the 3/8-16 is the front bolt. On the passenger's side, the rear bolt.

mine were both the same as i mentioned - however the 3/8 - 16 on the front, im sure u can clean the threads to make
it work in the rear as well - at least so they are interchangeable ....if u need

that is usual: the screws for saftybelts worldwide are inch sizes, not metric
