The crappy (and cheap looking but expensive) sound insulation under the hood bothers me. Has anyone considered replacing with a Daytona style quilted panel which was silver on mine? Would certainly upgrade the situation.

I love those little details and I agree that they really elevate the F car's mystique - I remember the first time I saw that quilted panel many years ago but, alas, we live in an age of bean counting and commercialism. Yeah, I thought about that too - several times actually - but I was conflicted not only by what would surely be a ridiculous expense and possibly a fire hazard, but also by altering the car's original historic fabric such as it is.

I’d love to see a quilted panel every time I open the hood. Provided my car didn’t catch in fire I might go for this.

My thought is to keep the removed piece which apparently clips in and make the new out of a Nomex fabric, so the original will go with the car if I ever sell.

Nomex is an interesting solution although I'm not sure how closely you would replicate the vintage look you're going for. If you decide to press on, could you please share the details? I'm assuming you would be using the same holes and clips to mount it?

I plan to use the same holes and clips.
