Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Saw this light puddle on my lift and saw oil or something clinging to the cv. Wiped it up and after a few days there it was again. Disconnected the drive shaft and didn’t see anything out of the ordinary as far as a oil leakIng which There would be no way for it to be there. In the other pic you see the grease in the flange all spread to the edges by centrifugal force. Is there not enough grease? Too much? Also note the discoloring of the grease. Shafts were rebuilt in 2015

Left or right side? If left, gearbox oil? Just remember birdmans tutorial on sealing the left side.

From the drip it looked as if the grease broke down, but once it was opened apparently not. Btw this is only on the left outer . hmmm

Image Unavailable, Please Login Nope everything is dry. The car is up on My lift and easy to inspect. Does that air space in theFlange look correct? Would that really break down the grease? I couldn’t see that happening

That grease looks a bit odd color wise and yes it looks like it's breaking down slightly and releasing some oil. Very common for some grease. I'm surprised you went so far to dismantle the shaft to investigate a droplet of oil. It's not the most inspiring job to loosen these bolts and you add wear and tear to the high grade hardware. I wouldn't worry that much. I suggest you reassemble the shaft and use the car.

    Best, Peter

It’s real easy for me to do. All the bolts on this car are rust free. But I’m guessing the grease is breaking down that the Indy put in. But at best it’s been 2k to 3k miles. Total joke.

kiwiokie. I know that moly grease is what’s used. And expected my above all holier than though Indy. To put good stuff in

How are the CV rubber boot look, are they in good shape, no tear, no puncture, and straps are nice and tight?

Are you sure it's not the damper that is leaking oil? I had a similar puddle and it looked like it came from the CV joint but it was in fact the damper leaking.

Ignore or make/install a gasket and forget about it. The grease looks fine! :)

If you remain seriously concerned, clean out all old grease and install new grease. THEN ignore (or make a gasket)!
