Here are couple of photoshopped 456 GT's and the wheels that i'll be looking at after the rebuild. One is of the novitec NF2s and the other is of HRE P47. The NF2's have to have spacers and the HRE's are the same size as the 19" modulars with 456 offsets The tire size for HRE's are easier to find... The Novitecs are in first photo and the HREs are in second one.
Let me know what you think . This Photochop was done rather quickly and crudely on a photo I found off google so if it's anyone's car thank you.

HRE is my pick. I love the Novitecs on the 550/575, but for some reason it doesn't look right on the 456 in the pic you provided, IMHO. You could always go BBS LM, I think Henry has a set for sale. I did it, and I think they look great on the 550.

Both look great especially under red. Very slight edge to HRE. The flatter spokes seem to fit the car's lines better, but that is completely in the eye of the beholder.

I like that light treatment as well. However, I'm trying to keep this car as close to stock as possible as I think it might devalue it in the long run. If I was going to do this mod, I'd consider this to be one of the first! Maybe, someone can post info about this. I have learned that the pop up head lights are now illegal in new cars so I guess it's a novelty that'll never be seen on new cars again.

I, too, like the Novitecs, but think I can get a better deal on the HRE's. Also, the lack of need for spacers and easier to find tires are a plus towards the HRE's. We have HRE's on my turbo and they are probably some of the best after market wheels out there. I posted a pic of my other toy car so you can see how well the HRE's can improve the looks.

Thanks again for your insight and keep it coming.

I vote HRE mainly because they fit better and won't need spacers. I am always against adding more parts than necessary to make something work.

To me these look very similar (ok, at least at that scale/distance). The HREs look like they are brassed metal, which is better but difficult to repair, while the Novitec are painted, no?

It would be down to the price and the weight. If you have significant gains in either I would go for that set.

Agree, unsprung weight is a BIG factor. In almost any instance I had larger wheels on a car the ride suffered too much. My daily driver came with very nice looking wheels but I ended up absolutely hating them; the ride was so much better on stock wheels, mainly because they were nearly half the weight.

It's well known among the Porsche group that the 18' stock wheels are a far better ride that the 19" aftermarket wheels. Many owners who track their cars actually keep their 18" for the track and put the 19" for their daily driving. I didn't get to drive my turbo with the 18" before the modding bug hit, so I can't compare, but the 19" wheels look great on the car. I just don't want to ruin the ride on my 456.

I found that large wheels not only deteriorate comfort but also make a car accelerate slower, as that weight has to be accelerated in two ways - both in a straight line and rotational. In that sense a small rim with a balloontire is actually better as there is comparatively little weight on the far edge of the wheel. But still it's hard to resist those looks...

Exactly, look at F1 rims, I think they are 14 or 15 inch.

Yes in this picture the HRE are brushed with a clear coat on top. The p43s on the turbo are the same and are very easy to keep clean. That being said, if we were to do the HREs they would be ordered with their silver paint to keep them stock looking. HRE will also cut the center cap diameter for Ferrari fit.

I have NF2s so I abstain on the vote. NF2s are painted silver and easy to touch-up. The difference in acceleration is negligible on 400 ft-lb V12s, but I am replacing my lug bolts and wheel spacer bolts with titanium. I figure that and the carbon fiber brakes make up for a little bit of wheel weight. With 9" front and 12.5" rear wheels and 355/25 19 rear tires, the car corners much better than it did on the stock 10.5Jx18 wheels and 295/35 18 tires. 456 owners with NF2s have commented on the same thing after replacing their 8.5jx17 and 10Jx17 wheels with larger ones. Most Ferraris are underwheeled and undertired, which is why Scuds, HGTE 599s, and 599 GTOs go to wider wheels and tires. The 612s started with 18" F and 19" R wheels and the last option wheels went to 20" all around.

John- We have never been able to determine the origin of the covered headlights on that black 456M. We originally thought Novitec, but they deny any culpability.

Taz, thanks for the info. It does look nice but I think the 456 will keep its uniqueness with the pop ups. I was just curious about it.

    I go for:
    fitment first
    lightness second
    durability third
    parts availability fourth

The top picture wheels look more like they would have come from the factory and fit the look of car better.

FBB- Makes sense because they are copies of the Enzo wheels, less the knock-off feature, and even almost the same size. Enzo wheels 9"/13", NF2s 9"/12.5".
