Anyone here have the SmartTop module installed on their Cali? I came across this from a guy who was selling his Cali T. The add says plug and play but of course this is a very over used phrase.

I installed one my Cali T a month ago.
    Took 15 minutes to install.
    Completely plug and play.

    Works great.

Doesn't work while you are moving, is my understanding, although it will on the 458.

So what exactly is the benefit of the module? Open the top from outside the car?

I don't think it's possible because the back end of the car swings down and back when the top is moving, so it would be a safety issue if someone came up behind you while you were putting the top down.

I think being able to do it one-touch and not have to hold the button down till it's finished moving, set your preferences for the windows to be up or down automatically (front and back windows, presumably).

Cali T top & windows can already be controlled from outside the car, with the key in the lock. (Not sure about the Cali)
I have used it on a number of occasions

I will try this once I get the Cali T back from getting the calipers painted. Do you stick the key in the door and turn and hold until open?

Can you explain this a bit? What do you mean by "key in the lock"?

Stand outside your Cali T, put your key in door lock, turn and hold to open or close the roof.
This beats climbing in and out of the car and holding the button to raise or lower the top and windows.
    Your Welcome

a car that close when i'm already driving is too dangerous anyways. besides, proximity sensor prohibits opening it if something too close is detected.

anyway, seems such a useless mod for cali t.

I doubt the proximity sensor would work once the back end started moving ... seems like a potential recipe for a disaster. I had some idiot in a minivan about 2 feet from my back bumper at 20 mph yesterday. I did like having that feature on my 911 cabriolets, I could put the top up as I was pulling in the driveway.

Did not know you can open or close the top with the key, only drawback to that that I could see would be the drain on the battery if the engine is not running.

I do not think we are looking to open/close the top while driving. Although I like it on my Huracan. The Cali T is slow but not as slow as my Drophead but both are a hassle having to pull over when I do want to drop the top. Both tops are heavy and smart to do it while stationary. But it would be nice to have the process start as I get to the car so as soon as I sit, I can place my phone, start some tune, maybe respond to an email, and then drive off. Instead of sitting, holding the top down button with one hand and fumbling with the other hand. If this module is not for you, then good on you. I see this as the same tech we are afforded these days just like when I pull up to my house, I prefer to push my remote instead of getting out and punching the gate code on the keypad. The same for the garage. Same as me going to the grocery store and buying butter instead of churning and making butter at home. Call me lazy.

I own this module. Installed it on my Cali T. It is a MUST have.
    Just awesome.
    1. You can open and close the roof with the remote
    2. You can open and close the roof without holding the button. Just click once and....here you go
    3. You can start the closing sequence and leave your car. Open the door, switch the engine off and let the roof close.
    4. You can chose to have the Windows remaining down when the roof is open. Or closed. Up to you
    5. You can open and close all windows by clicking the button
    6. You can initiate the opening sequence and start driving. Yep you can. What you can not do is open the roof while driving as the trunck is locked. But if you are at a traffic light stopped and you initiate the sequence, the roof will keep opening even if you start driving.
This device is awesome. The support is awesome
It changes your car. Just buy it !

Ah, that ancient relic on the door that looks like it's from my mom's 1976 Oldsmobile. I never use that. :)
