more geodesic polyhedrons for me - I saw him speak at McGill when I was living in Montreal and the U.S. built a giant geodesic dome for their EXPO pavilion, and saw him a couple of more times at UBC. Even when he was quite old you could see him struggle to speak fast enough to keep up with his ideas. I think he was possibly the smartest person I have ever met; of course I was always a bit weak on the math side of things - LOL! BTW, notice I didn't put a year on that EXPO. If anyone wants to know how old I am they're going to do some research!
We built one in college, U of NM. covered w/ roofs from wrecked cars. about 20 ft high. He came by and saw it, as did Mike Reynolds (Earthship). 67 or 68

First time I ever used a tape recorder (!) in classroom; Bucky taught a course at SJSC/ID in 1966; NO ONE could hand write notes fast enough to keep up with the stream of ideas/creativity coming out of that old farts brain! Later we did an event at Esalen in Big Sur; in 2 days 20 kids built 30 tent-sized domes in the forest (my first prefab experience). Maybe my first real taste of 'out of the box' thinking was working with Bucky Fuller. Everything following that semester got examined in new ways. He didn't think much of my ex-racer Porsche speedster tho....too noisy; but the motor was in the right place.....
Still there, and I see see it twice a day - to and from office - when I work-from-work. So haven’t seen it lately. Very dramatically lit up at night, BTW; makes for fun viewing.

Thought it was a “tuned” Z4 in the first pic. Very Camaro side on. Would make a nice Camaro actually. LOL
Wasn’t quite sure where to post this, but the design/style comparison made me stop and take the photos. Never been that big a design fan of MacLaren , but this example is absolutely beautiful. Right color as well. The 60 year old Cadillac on the other hand is a trip down ‘design memory lane’. They don’t Mae them that big anymore thank goodness, although pick-ups have taken up the mantle of being huge. Nice. The surfacing and continuity of curvature still better on the Caddy! And the Caddy is, dare I say it, a more elegant and refined shape - save for the outsized fins.
Indeed. With that much real estate you could resolve most design proposals/solutions. Some better than others as you might imagine.
