given the 575 was well into production by then, i would say any issues would have been resolved

The 456M absolutely never got the updated sintered steel valve guides. One of the reasons Ferrari published this bulletin for the 456M and the 550. Ferrari changed the guides on the bread and butter F355, but not on the V12s until the 575M went into production.

The bulletin is dated 2001. One would hope that they would have updated them in production but who knows. I have a 2003 so I really hope they are the upgraded version.

They did not update the valve guides. Production of the 456M was too low to bother.

There were good sets and bad sets of bronze guides in the 456s, 550s and 456Ms. Some were more like brass than bronze, but not all period V12s were affected. I would not hesitate to put a good set of aftermarket bronze guides in one of the V12s that needed them.

Hopefully you both got a good set.
