Some people may argue that the 550 is more of a modern 275 GTB/4 than Daytona. I think this is somewhat splitting hairs. The 550 is very much a modern interoperation of all the classic Ferrari V12 front engine manual gearbox coupes, and bridges the classic and modern eras. You get a great mix of some of the classic analog Ferrari driving experience (sans too many electronic nannies), but with enough modern amenities and modern performance that you can take it on a trip or long drive in comfort without worry and have a blast. It's perfection!
To me it's always been a modern interpretation of the Daytona...However, an argument can be made that the gills on the side are a nod to the 275! For sure it's a on the heavy side....nod to daytona! I just love the 550. For me it's the perfect mix between modern and classic...Fast enough to not be slow today, it's involving, but still has all creature comforts. Great size boot (trunk for you 'Mericans), so long trips are easily done. Hell, all it needs is a modern bluetooth headunit, it really is a daily usable Ferrari.
To my eyes its always been: 550/575 -> 275GTB 599 -> Daytona F12 -> 250SWB 812 its a whole new thing!
A blew Ferrari !! Nice o/t. I never test drove or sat in a 550. Just loved the looks and wanted the V-12 and gated shifter.
550s and 575s are great cars. But they don't even come close to having the beauty of a Daytona or a 275. A bit quiet, is the best description one designer came up with. But great cars and a cool video.
It should, being 30 years later. Daytonas are great for building up your forearms, though. Great feel at speed because of that, even if it was worm and roller. AC works better, too. Both brake about equally badly.
