Image Unavailable, Please Login Then I took each one off, one at a time, to work on the plastic lines. it turns out the plastic line installations was very simple thanks to Verell’s kit first you put the hard line in the top of the tool like this.
Image Unavailable, Please Login The two halves go together. The guides make sure everything is square. In some cases you can push down, and in some I had to give it a wack with a rubber hammer.
Image Unavailable, Please Login Half done. You have to be careful with the lines for the WUR as they are different sizes....
Be wary of leaks at the injectors. I had all of my lines re-plated as well and it seems that the plating on the barbs that mate with the injectors can flake and mess up the seal. I had to lap several of them by running an old injector in a drill and using compound to grind the plating down to bare steel and get them to stop leaking. You have to observe them very closely when running, it's not blatantly obvious that they are leaking.
Seeing as this thread started almost 4 years ago to the day (with the car apparently off the road all that time) to do a major service that was needed after 4 years, does this mean that the car needs another major? Or do we start the clock when the first service finishes?
Ha ! firstly rob. Yes. The car needs another service now. When I “Drove” this car the other day, it was virtually 5 years to the day when It was last driven. So it should have another belt. Am i going to do it ? Paul. Totally agree. As you will see in the next picture...... jbrauer. Thank you.
Image Unavailable, Please Login I did get the engine running and carefully inspected all the connections...... it really didn’t need “careful” inspection because this stupid fuel pressure regulator, which sits on top of the frequency valve was leaking....
I had a three second video of it leaking, but I can not seem to upload the video. basically within 5 seconds of the engine starting you can see the fuel. 10 seconds and it’s dripping all over the exhaust manifold......
These frequency pressure damper regulators (Bosch 0280161019) are extremely hard to find used and especially in new condition.. forget about it!!! So whats the alternative replacement that could be used besides the original Bosch part? Not sure how these damper regulators are spec out for specific cars..
How are you sticking the stencil down? I may be late to the party but craft stores have a stencil adhesive that you spray on the stencil. Works a treat.
Hi. Some updates for you guys. firstly saabguy. I didn’t stick the stencil down. Clearly that was the problem, although didn’t consider this until I saw your post. So thank you ! I have stencil glue coming from amazon. Marco. Thank you for the kind words. Rob. I fixed the leak as follows.
Image Unavailable, Please Login I ended up talking to Larry. His advice was to seal it with an anaerobic sealant. The one he recommended (Wurts) is unavailable to the general public. So I got this one, having checked that it is safe for fuel systems. anyway it worked like a treat. I applied it to the joint as well as the threads, waited for 24 hours and no leak ! Yippy !
At this point everything was pretty much done so i decided to put that wheels back on. Just before this I decided to let the engine warm up to make sure that the radiator fans came on ok. During this process, for some reason, I noticed that the alternator belt had come off. Weird. so I spent several hours putting the belt back on.
At this point I drove very carefully around the neighborhood to see what was working and what wasn’t. Here is what I found..... the breaks don’t work. The break failure light is on, indicating that the bleeding process didn’t work correctly, and they didn’t work to the point of feeling dangerous. the handbreak didn’t work. We all know this is a 308 but It didn’t even feel like it was connected. Warm start issue. Once warmed up the engine sounded pretty nice, but cold was not clever. steering and suspension (at 20 mph) felt ok ! after a couple of loops car I put her back in the garage. I also noticed that the stupid alternator belt was off again, and this time had taken the water pump belt off at the same time. So something was up.....
