I never used a pellet smoker here, but I think a few have. Will be interesting to follow your bbq adventures!

I went to Grandpa's Southern BBQ in Idaho Falls today. Modest expectations...but I'd say exceeded.

    Very authentic place...hard to believe given its location;

    - Grandpa (just as you would picture him) working the room saying howdy.
    - Family working throughout the place.
    - The food was solid - tasty and good smoke.
    - Standout was the very moist cornbread - didn't even need butter or honey. Beans and Mac were plus level. Meats were solid.
    - I had the brisket, pork ribs, and chicken. Along with beans and mac'n'cheese and the cornbread.

I'll go back. Grandpa told me they also make gumbo and they were out of collards today, so I have to try those next time.

yeah, as evidenced by my historical gas-grill usage, I'm a lazy outdoor cook. So starting "easy" with pellets.

I ran out of gas for my grill. I'm not used to having tanks, my old house was built into the house gas supply. So I made spaghetti with Kirkland meatballs. I'll get gas tomorrow, what a pain in the butt.

That's quite a find! All that looks great.

Having already smoked the chuck roast to 195 F, didn't take super long to simmer it until tender. Nice smoky flavor of the beef worked well with the chili seasoning.

With the veggies in there, served over white rice, made a good & filling meal. Although seeing the above post, wish I had whipped up some sweet Southern corn bread.

Some good looking food. I've missed out being busy moving. First home cooked meal at the new place.

Spanish inspired basmati rice, teriyaki shrimp, and some beans!

Day 2 of Idaho Falls BBQ Tour, I went to the little town of Rigby to Lil' Mike's.

    Wow!

Seriously, surprisingly, great que. This place did all the meats very well and I'd say that its top 3-5 on each individual meat in my experience (which includes many crappy places here and there, but one outstanding place in PHX, and importantly at least a dozen of the finest in Texas during my two BBQ tours of that great state).

The rib and brisket and turkey really stood out and I'm hard pressed to search my memory for a better "threesome" at any place in Texas. If anywhere, it was Franklin's (yeah, I know, save your hate, that place has great BBQ). The only other place I've been that can handle all of the meats at a high level is Little Miss BBQ in PHX. There were a couple of better briskets of course in Texas - Louie Mueller and Franklin to name two. And Mike's doesn't do the beef rib, as places in Texas can do so well.

Overall = outstanding. This was legit. I sampled them all; brisket, chicken, turkey, cheddar/jalapeno sausage, pulled pork and babyback ribs. (btw - lookit that smoke on the rib in the last pic)

Also had two very good sides; smoked mac 'n cheese and "corn salad" with little crushed fritos on it.

This place had a very thorough Texas-vibe in look and food.

If ever on your way to Yellowstone and craving BBQ, this place will take care of ya.

I'll be going back for sure. In fact, having leftovers now for dinner.

It was raining and didn't feel like standing in rain while the guy filled the tank. Got ribs at Montana's again.

I'm feeling an F-chat bbq type of Idaho needs to be planned!

Did veal scallopini last night. Veal hip from Dartagnan, pounded thin. Dredge in AP flour. Pan fry in oil/butter mix. Pan sauce by adding a bit more flour once the veal was removed, S&P, lemon juice, sugar, white wine. Served with peas.

Night before we did a little taste test. Cheap steak from good part of cow (choice t-bone) vs. good steak from bad part of cow (prime top sirloin)! 2 min per side. Then 7 min indirect.

Wife voted for the prime sirloin. I thought both were good, but the t-bone we bought at Albertson's a while back was really chintzy on the filet side. I guess since they were on special, all the good ones were picked through by the time we got there.

I forgot to take my t-bone out of the freezer. Was going to have spaghetti and meatballs instead. But I just finished off the Chinese food left overs, plan to skip dinner now.

I was in Idaho Falls last year about this time. Long story... family medical emergency that started in WY and and ended up in IF. From what I saw it’s a really nice place, only ate at places near the hospital. Health care is top notch, people were very friendly, food at places near the hospital was very good. Surprised it was so flat.
