What's the best solution to my 348 seatbelt issue..

Fellow F-Chatter Wade came up with the basic diagram. I incorporated details found in the more readily available F348 wiring diagrams and added colours. Here's the message thread. You may have to read it all to see the final picture:

Flying_Butress may still have his old broken one. It may be fixable (or maybe you can use parts from it to fix yours).

I've forgotten what the speed input is for (perhaps the warning system or seat belt locking function)?

Wow, hell of a thread. I read that sensor thread also. I could see the VSS as a secondary flag for a tone generator after the car is rolling, but there is none. BTW, the first thing I thought of with those ECU's are bad Caps. Happens all the time in PCM's as they get old. Injectors and coils make big voltage spikes when the transistors shut off. Old bad Caps can ruin things. Once I get in there, I may disable it. Thanx so much for your help Ian!!

I got it . The left motorized belt wasn't working due to a bad conn. at the left seat wire connector. Now it works and it's still a spooky deal for a seat belt ,isn't it?

 

Am I the only one that likes the auto mouse belts? Reminds me of my old escort GT I used to have when I was 19. I love them

Yeah, Ford Escort and Tempo and more had them. A lot of complainers out there , but in the '80's there was a million cars with them. Sort of endearing to me now. Quirky but not anything to rag on about.

 

Or European. You get the car in its original form.

 

I've only had one car with automatic seatbelts like that--a 1992 Volkswagen Corrado VR6. While I didn't hate it, I certainly thought it was silly. Luckily, unlike a lot of cars that got these things, the Corrado is very easily changed to normal seatbelts because all of the normal seatbelt mounting is still on the car (provided you could find the parts these days--they only made 18,000 Corrados over the 5 year run). Many are not with us anymore......when was the last time you saw one in the wild? It's been a long time for me.

 

I still have my Corrado VR6 (purchased new). Haven't licensed it in years. Stored indoors.

Haven't seen a Corrado "in the wild" in a long time. Saw a new GTI in the VW showroom a while back, don't want one.
