I started doing sets of 10 with the perfect pushup over several hours. Four weeks later, I'm doing 35-30-25-25 in about a half hour.
After the first day with the perfect pushup, I couldn't do pushups even two days later because my lower abs were so sore.

    Push em out, brother
You’ll surprise yourself how many you can do over the course of a day
Keep up the program and soon you’ll be doing even more

FYI - thanks for the recommendation on the perfect pushup. I was doing them au naturel during my routine, but decided to order some after interacting on this thread. Much better results, and better form. I've noticed a definite improvement.

I like them also. They help keep the strain off the shoulders

I agree with this. Rest days are important. Also pull-ups > push-ups. But better to do both. You can easily get an SC joint injury doing dips, so I would be careful with those.

Also if you have weights, try doing military press, bench press, and curls with dumbbells instead of a barbell. Big difference.

Agree with slow start and gradual build up. I limit my push ups to every other day. What I have found most helpful is abdominal strengthening prior to any push up. Some sit ups help. Also doing plank position for one minute helps to set me up for the push ups.

I started doing 100 push ups every other day this past weekend. I can only do it in three sets (40-30-30) with a minute or so break in between. Hopefully can I get to 100 in a row soon, but my right shoulder has had problems the last few months for reasons I don't know and it is slowing me down. The gym has been closed for months so I can't do heavy lifting overhead press anymore like I did and I had no shoulder issues with it then...

I’ve backed off a fair amount
My 50 year old shoulders are hurting....
Found that incline push ups don’t seem to cause the day later pain (wake up with pain multiple times)
    Doing every other day
    Getting old... dammit

I hurt at first then stopped. Started back strictly following the 100pushups.com program. I’m on week 4 and now doing 180 pu’s a day with zero soreness. They start you off very slowly and spread out to build strength. The key is the right form. Quality over quantity!!

My plan is to go through the 6 weeks then start all over with the perfect pushup rotating bars.

I'd think every other day is the way to go. Pushups are hard on the body. Do some squats on the other days,

I got up to 25 and looked good— whew. Blown out knee but what’s that got to do with push ups.

Yesterday was my all out test day. Did 52 in one go. New program calls for 52 pushups 6x a day. This is getting annoying. Think im just gonna max out 3x a day and see how it goes.

Ive had some set backs. sick father in law, etc etc. But I'm back on the wagon. on Day 10 of 100pushups.com - getting stronger and leaner again. Diet is on point. Hope to drop about 15 pounds in the coming months.

Number of pushups matters but also it means more with correct technique. A full push up entails one’s nose coming down to the wrist level.
