    I recommend every parent encourages their children to study Mechatronics. It's already a scarce skill in Australia and the demand will explode in future, not only because of automation in cars, but in every aspect of industry, transport and agriculture.

    Properly autonomous cars are still a long way away.

    As for some of the other wanky tech crap, yeah that’s probably only a year or two away.
    But it will only appear in obscure, embarrassingly styled cars that only a small number of rich tossers will buy and it will date extremely quickly.

    Like anything, the genuinely worthwhile ideas will gradually filter down to normal cars and buyers, but most of what’s in that vid will disappear without trace.

    Let's have a bet. When will properly autonomous cars be around?
    ie. When do you think you'll be able to jump in a car, tell it where you want to go, then sit back in your "lounge chair" conversing with the passengers behind you in their lounge chairs as you all swipe away on a wood panel changing the map and the music volume while you are whisked away to your destination in electric silence?

    I'm happy to say - it definitely won't happen in the next 10 years, and I'd be amazed if it happens in 20.

    What's your prediction?
