DrTax, very well put.
I received a Christmas card from Ed Gault. He says he's doing fine and enjoying his Vette. I haven't heard from Magoo in a while and Bret too. According to Barry Wolinski, Bret is doing good and is still working at Classic Coach... Don't know about the progress on his 308. At least I'm one of the old-timers whose still around...
Wow...I was just about to ask if anyone had heard from Peter recently Great to hear from you again. Like many of you, I miss chatting with Ed, Magoo, Bret, etc. -- they contributed a good deal of technical info. to the board back then. After lurking for a while, I finally joined up right after purchasing the 308 back in Nov. '01. It's great to see many of the "originals" like Peter still participating here!
i am still here, if i count as an old timer. just not always enough free time to go through the site and rack up a zillion posts.....i do try to stay polite though.
HEY TIM DONT SUGGEST OR PUT ME IN THIS GROUP.......MAKE YOUR POINTS TO YOURSELF,, YOU HAVE BEEN QUITE SARCASTIC LATELY, MAYBE YOU NEED A WAKE UP CHAT???
No problem, Brother Bruce. F-Chat is definitely going through growing pains. In fact, the only reason that I commented on this thread was due to the spat between J. Scott and Nibbler. I actually like both of them, but I do feel that Nibbler crossed a line when he sent threatening PMs to Scott. That's one step over the line in my book. Hey, that reminds me of a song... Dr "Laid Back" Tax
Well, I have been a member for 1½ year now, and I consider myself a member, all though I'm farely young. I came off to a bad start on f-chat (Was it the old one? I think so) but all you guys (A lot of those missing now ? ) forgave me, and took me in, despite my unfortunate arrival. I love this board, I loved it then and now. Does anyone know what happened to Magoo, I remember him relatively clearly.
This is so right and I've seen it work well. This is exactly what the "old farts" did with BretM and he shortly turned into one of our best users ever.
Good question, I think the others had a good explanation, this one was just random. I even tried to analyze his previous posts and couldn't figure it out.
We have all left because your Ferraris are too damn loud... And too shinny, it hurts my eyes, which makes me squint... Yep, too damn loud! Oh, .......... old in that way, never mind.
Vile vulgar posts are what keeps this soap operatic community coming back for more. I vote all the vile vulgar assclowns stay & get free admission. AssClownChat
I dont really know what the meaning of your repsonse is. This is exaclty what im talknig about. Dr. Tax and I both posted serious, valid, non offensive posts, but they seem to rub you the wrong way. Dont take this the wrong way but with all due respect, it seems like you are trying to start some type of conflict with us, not the other way around. My post definately did not warrant an agressive response. Im sure there are more here that would agree with me on this, and also with my previous post in this thread. I remember a time long ago, a time even before the old software, there were almost no problems, and things were discussed in an intelligent manner (as it still is today in many threads). Resorting to flames and insults whe nsomeone doesnt agree with you does nothing to foster intelligent discussion. It is interesing that Rob mentions Bret. He hasnt posted in a very long time and, while i havent communicated with him in a while, i remember the reason why he doesnt post here anymore. People who have been here for a long time think they are different than (ie. above) everyone else and should be treated accordingly. Maranelloman is a perfect example. He broke a rule and didnt think he should have been held accountable.
I think there were problems from Day 1. Not community problems, not software problems, but people problems. You'll have people problems with only 2 people and 2500 times more than that with 5000 people. I think everyone is just complaining about human nature. Still doesn't make things right, but I think it's expected we'll always have someone (even ourselves) get out of line and the community will "fix" it as Dr. Tax talks about from an academic perspective. Why did he leave? I can't remember or never knew in the first place. I know he went to school for awhile and didn't have much access to the site.
Name a few? The board actually started doing better once he was gone, I would know that I could find JRV in 75% of the flame wars. He can't do anything without having enemies.
It was partly due to being busy with school and i guess he just moved on. He didnt have any major problem with the board that caused him to leave, and I wouldnt even say he left, he just gradually stopped posting. He did have the same feelings as me that i already posted in this thread. He didnt like the double standard here. This had nothing to do with the way you ran the board, but by the way other people tried to control it and also the way some other people made a mockery of it, in a sense.
From what I can tell JRV runs his board with an iron fist, as I found out in my very first post. I was Completely taken the wrong way. I hope that this site never gets that "controlled". Like I said before, I've never found a real problem here because I choose not to read those threads. However, NNO's post was WAY over the line, regardless of what provoked it. I like NNO but I also think that the rules should be applied equally to everyone. I think alot of people have nothing better to do than post on FC, others drop by once in a while to see what is new. I tend to look at things that interest me and only open those threads. My Canadian .02 I'll ask again, anyone know what happened to Villamoura? Nice guy. At least I thought so.
It was bad bad bad, I would rather not revisit it. NNO and everyone learned from it. NNO was wrongly attacked, but then he took it to the next levels, which is pretty standard human nature when fighting. Someone spits on you, so you kick their ass.
Rob started to attempt to control behavior here, but for some reason, at least to my way of thinking, he hasn't been consistent. An example of this (and I don' t mean to critize anyone with this comment, because I like both of the participants) is Nibblesworth's post in this thread. If we have a rule that we shouldn't post offensive material, what about obscenities? Dave got blocked for something he did on a regular basis, without adequate notice, but as to discussons that become nasty, Rob has done little about that issue. I think that is in part, a double standard. I think that has contributed to some of the over the top flames we have seen. That in turn contributed to people leaving. Just my .02 Art
The degradation in to name calling on some threads is something but if you read this thread you will get EXACTLY what I meant by some adding to a discussion and some tanking a thread. There are a couple we have not heard from in a LOng time Peter Goesinya and Telson (cut and paste commando) Any word on them?
Boy! You guys are playing with matches!!!!!! Peter Gozinya!! Quick somebody light some sage, and get my exorcist on the phone! Beetlejuice, beetlejuice, beetlejuice. Speedy308 for President, Brigitte for VP.
