I will admit to that. This was clearly Lance's best race of the season--a demon start, he snookered The Butler and kept his nose clean. I do have serious questions about the legitimacy of the Tracing Point however. It is a carbon copy of last years Mercedes and the official explanation of the design process doesn't hold water. They had to have access to Mercedes IP for the car to perform this seamlessly.
Adrian, As you said, haters are gonna hate. Stroll is not the fastest guy on the track, and he will most likely never be a world champion. But right now he's placed higher than two former world champions. The guy is living the life that many of us would only dream of. He's not my favorite driver, but I do enjoy seeing him do well. Now, can we just get back to hating on Hamilton
Having raced myself, I believe the standing start and first lap is the closest combat and requires the greatest wheel to wheel skill. Lance has proven himself time after time during these knife fights and has usually come out ahead of his grid position at the start. How can you call him out for lack of skill in close combat? He has made the third qualification in almost every race this season and was a tenth behind Checo this past week. That’s not slow being ahead of the other Red Bull and LeClaire. While everyone is entitled to an opinion, you’re just not looking at the data and are perpetuating a negative performance narrative that judging from Lance’s performance this year imho is factually inaccurate. So do I, Riccardo is a great driver and has a very likable personality. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Why Lance Stroll is more than just a daddy’s boy http://www.gptoday.com/full_story/view/731432/Why_Lance_Stroll_is_more_than_just_a_daddy8217s_boy/
After being given the second fastest car on the grid. And he is still behind the long run pace of Perez. As witnessed by Albon, Max is over-delivering on Red Bull performance.
Stroll’s race pace was fine, he was a few seconds behind Perez at the chequered flag after doing one more pit stop than Perez did and ran in front of Perez until the pit stop. Just team strategy hedging their bets. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
No, actually 5th fastest in qualifying and 4th fastest behind only the Merc’s and Verstappen. Checo actually was also a couple of seconds ahead of him at the finish line but received a 5 second penalty. Can’t wait for Spa, should be a great race. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Lets put it like this: You own an F1 team, 5 drivers are available, none bring money or sponsorship, they all cost exactly the same. Available drivers are: Stroll Russell Perez Albon Gasly Which 2 drivers would you hire to put in your team?
If you look at the driver’s points this year, it would be Stroll and Albon, but you have to take into consideration that Albon is driving the superior Red Bull and that Perez missed two races. So my choice would be Stroll and Perez. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
But you can't look at it just from a points perspective...Russel, Gasly are driving far slower cars than the RP. It's hard to prove but put Stroll next to Russell and he wouldn't see which way he went.
At least Hamilton is at the front of the grid and with 6 WDC to his name, so a long thread on him makes some sense. But a three and a half year long thread on a rich back marker who is finally buying a decent ride...I just don't understand giving him this much space or thought. There must be more interesting driver stories in karting.
For one I like Stroll; young kid with a great personality. I "met" him a few years ago at COTA where he was talking to the fans and giving autographs. Second he is Canadian, that makes him North American and almost "one of us". It'd be great to see a US American in the series (please not Lack-of-Speed) but short of that I go for a Canadian. And I find the hypocrisy funny: Everybody is all uppedy about his dad buying his boy-racer a fast car toy. When in reality a) the guy had to work hard up the chain of lower formulae to get his super license and b) many F1 drivers had to buy their way into the series. As I said elsewhere, Mick Schumacher will one day drive in F1 and it will be on equal merits, that is some talent and lots of $. And then nobody will have a problem with it because he is the son of...
