Because they are a publicly traded company who must answer to their shareholders and keep churning product.

Congratulations Marcel. I think your exhaust will ‘loosen up’ after a few miles. It sounds great in the GTS (and I have a coupe too).

Marcel congratulations, do you think that Monzas now in production will have GPF? Even Monzas destined for the US?

The non-GPF improves and gets louder as well so the GPF/non-GPF comparison would stay the same.

The Monza is a limited edition and has been homologated without GPF and the whole production will be without GPF.

For a VS, probably. For a GTS, I decided no based both on the GPF and design.

I can answer this question for me. Probably not. I spec’d my 812 intending to keep the car in my collection forever. Knowing that the sound is compromised (Marcel’s 20% reduction sounds right), to exit now in favor of a VS (were I to be allocated one which is, admittedly, doubtful) would be contingent on the following:
    • Price walk.
    • Production amount.
    • Performance increase.
    • Weight decrease.
    • Styling differences.
I think the price walk will be extreme ($300,000+ to trade into a proper spec from my current proper spec), I think the production numbers will have a market effect closer to Pista than F12tdf, not sure how much more performance can be wrung out of the existing V12 considering the challenges presented by the GPF, weight decrease might well be substantial, and perhaps some of the styling foibles of the 812 are addressed in the VS. At least for me, I am not sure the juice would be worth the squeeze.

GPF, auto start stop, no more physical key, and my strong preference of the F12B/F12tdf styling over 812SF was what tipped the scales in favor of the tdf for me, knowing 812VS is hot and inbound. But other than those relatively minor and very subjective preferences, I'm willing to bet the 812VS will be insane per reports...

Seems like this is the only exciting NA/V12 car in the pipeline for Maranello for the short term, so I'm eagerly awaiting to see what Ferrari comes up with

I suspect the 812VS will be remarkable, but I’m so happy with our 2019 812SF that I don’t long for something “better”. Like you, Sam, I’d rather pair the SF with a tdf. Also allows me to finally stop playing the allocation game which became tiresome for me personally, especially given recent offerings which appeal less and less.

It’s not Ferrari’s fault, and I genuinely feel for the company. Engineers historically expend so much talent and energy to shave a few pounds here and there on performance cars. Governments torture engineers with increasingly stringent MPG mandates. Then they turn around and create regulatory boondoggles like the heavy, performance-robbing, potentially reliability-harming GPF. It will have zero impact on the world’s environmental health given the small relative number of Ferraris on the road, many of which are rarely driven.

Makes total sense to me. Thankfully there are still quite a few good modern offerings from Ferrari at different price points for all of us IMO, even if they are not current offerings/new models. I feel for Ferrari too, especially after visiting Musei Ferrari in 2018 and seeing the glorious hall of all the engines they had built up to that point. Painfully I see Ferrari's service/parts/warranty departments doing very well for the future. I've wondered if Ferrari will become more of a servicing company in the long term future if we are in the hell that is all electric.

The pre-GPF 812SF is undeniably alluring with the engine, sound, and dual natured driveability! I've come to realize that you will pay handsomely for that extra side of special sauce you get with a VS model one way or another, it may not be the right choice/make sense for everyone!

I'm on the sidelines rooting for the 812VS :D

The VS will be the bees knees, GPF or not. But I enjoy the guilt-free experience of racking up tens of thousands of miles on a regular production Ferrari, especially when it’s as performance-oriented, practical, and (at least to my eyes) pretty as the 812SF. I never dreamed a “lowly” regular production car could be so great.

Having said that, I’m sure my heart will cry out for the VS once I see it. Too much is never enough for us!

Congratulations again on your tdf. I love the spec! [emoji1376]

I suspect you’re right! It will be a hard car to resist if it lives up the hype and one is offered an allocation.

Your last question is exactly the one I’m asking myself pre-gpf 812 imo will be highly desirable in the future and Ferrari simply won’t make those cars anymore

I have both and for me the GTS is the better car, and sounds wonderful. I TM’d my coupe and have other Ferrari open cars so I will most likely sell on the GTS and probably keep the coupe but if it was a standard spec it would be the other way around.

I have just figured out what the GPF is, it's the mask mandate for cars. I always drive my car without a mask, glad my car doesn't have to wear one.
