599 started to grow on me. Wasn't able to find anything specifics on year over year difference. I know about optional HGTE package on later year cars (and how it can be retrofitted) but otherwise am clueless when it comes to the 599. Appreciate any insights on reliability, model year differences and potential weak points on the car.

FYI, someone told me to look for a 2010 car as it has the same (most similar) engine mapping as the GTO...true or nonsense?

    TIA!

Affirmative, around the 2008 MY the Motronic ECUs changed from 7.1.1 to 7.3.2, CCMs became standard, and a CTEK battery charger, software and connectors was made standard. Other than that, not much. HGTE option for 2010 MY and GTO for 2011 MY. The full HGTE package cannot be retrofitted to 599s before SN 156938 in CY 2007.

Good stuff...thanks Terry! How's the general reliability of the car? Any particular areas I should focus on during a PPI?

Not a lot of issues but when buying check for leaking/wet shocks, small oil leaks around valve covers, the damper in the radio cover operation, LCD display blinking in/out, the usual leather and sticky button issues.

John- Jerry pretty much covered it. The 599 has proven to be very reliable and those faults are more of an annoyance and expense than a reliability issue. They generally get their owners home.
