Apparently Alonso had clutch issues. I was thinking choke issues.
Actually he won because I actually had Sushi for lunch Sunday, I am sure my prize money commission cometh in the mail as fast as a pole lap, yup
On a serious note (unusual for me), please link me to the contract that indicates that Sato receives the prize money, not Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing......... (please tell me "we're" not so naive that "we" believe this is so.) 'Makes wonderful press (and yes, he "won" that amount, but for who(m?)?), but what's his actual percentage, if any? Of course, I could be mistaken, but in the past, the check was made out to the entrant, and the drivers contract determines what he receives (or not) of it.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Then why did you post it as if it were so? I'm aware that there are those on here that don't know...... Touche.....
'Wasn't posting a reply to you!!!! Beside.....I'm not a duuuuuude....I'm a man. An old one at that....
Un-flooping-believable...... Sheldon (Cooper), you need to work on your recognition of sarcasm some more.....
Fred is like a case of the "crabs". Sooner or later it will go away but the embarrassment lives on for months!
Loved the ratings. Almost like the thing never took place https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2020/08/indy-500-ratings-record-low-august-nbc/ Roger must be overjoyed in his purchase. Looking like MLB and NBA.
On the issue of how the purses are split between driver and team, each driver/team has a different arrangement built into their contracts. Higher profile drivers (especially those with previous Indy 500 wins) may command a larger share but this is rarely, if ever, made public. It's easier to report the winning driver won $XXX than the whole team as to the uninitiated, it hardly matters. The driver gets the credit. The driver has his face etched into the Borg Warner Trophy. The driver's name is in the headlines. See how that works? Ratings down in the U.S. but how did the race do in Spain, France, Japan, Sweden, etc. where national drivers had high profile presence? BHW
While there is greater awareness of Indy in France thanks to Simon's win last year (but typically he never got any congratulatory message from the government) it is only among F1 fans who decided to look into this a bit more. I assume the same in Sweden for Marcus and Felix but racing is very very much under the radar there as was the case when Kenny Brack won Indy in 1999. All that nothing close to what attention Taku and Fernando can draw in their countries.
Hi Marc, interesting to know. It was reported perhaps a year or more ago when Fernando Alonso was set to go Indy Car full time that he had emulated Nigel Mansell in making a commercial arrangement with a Spanish TV network to carry the events live. I hadn't been aware of it at the time but when Mansell made the jump from F-1 to CART in 1993, he was a national hero had done a deal with one of the British television networks back home to carry the races and he pocketed a substantial fee in the process (leave it to the British, who invented motoring media, you know, to figure that one out). Haven't heard much about this since Alonso's Indy Car plans washed out and is returning to F-1 next year. BHW
