OBO. “FERARRI” This plate has been owned by me for 30 years. I’m moving out of state and want someone else to enjoy this special plate. In full disclosure it is not the correct spelling. The double R is in the wrong spot. The 2nd best Ferrari plate in the state. I recently changed it to the Legacy design, black w/yellow letters. This plate is in perfect condition. It has not been placed on a car since I received it and the mo/yr stickers haven’t been placed on it. The buyer of these plates will receive both plates, a signed reg 17 DMV form, mo/yr stickers even though the DMV will provide new ones with the transfer. I have transferred these plates on many cars.

Actually, Personalized plates bring big money. While poking around you can find plates that have sold for 6 digits. amazing.

    Great question Jonny.

In the UK, there are no 'personalized' plates per se as the ones in the USA, thus incredibly rare and worth 6 figures,
so a misspelled plate from the USA, to the British, is worthless, as possibly it might not be for a USA driver, thus the price abyss.
For instance, someone might pay lots for "FERRARI", but nothing for "FERARRI". This option simply not available in the UK.
In the USA, a 'clever' name on a personalized plate is great, by itself and misspelled, another story. Clearly, no blame implied on a '2nd best' plate from the OP.
Personally, in the latter example, you just cannot spell, regardless if the 'proper spelling' was available or not.
    Tomato / Tomatoe...:)

To give you a better perspective:

UK Motoring journalist Quentin Willson says plates fall into two distinct groups.
"The number plate market is polarised between the cheesiest, chosen by people with the literary sensibilities of vampire bats, and those that look really quite good, hide the age of your car and can look really quite classic.
It really is about being visually pleasing. They are great fun but much abused. It seems to have caught the nation's psyche. For a motoring-obsessed nation they are a suburban trinket. A number plate is a form of automotive jewellery. You can either change your car or change your number plate, and changing your number plate is cheaper."

    Regards, Alberto

There should be no need for a DMV visit. This should be handled all through sending the form in the mail.

@tazandjan on my 1969 Meyers Manx I bought the plate "69 Manx" from a Manx club member, who mentioned it was a vintage california blue and gold (If I recall I paid $400) and when it arrived it was a standard plate (I was frustrated for sure).

The phenomenon around paying for personalized plates does occur but it feels "rare" in California.

It would be interesting to see what price that license plate would clear the market at.

    Agreed!

I would say I felt like a dip **** paying $400 for my "69 Manx" plate......when I was doing my personal/custom build of that Baja Manx Racer I was spending on things like a drunken sailor..........I have considered "for off road, static display/show-only" having a blue gold plate made by that German outfit that does customs.

I ordered a California plate for a Ferrari I pre-ordered 3 years in advance of it's offering but the deal fell through when the dealership lied to me too many times. I got my $10,000 deposit, which they had for three years interest free, and have never been back.

It's now on my 2002 Ford Excursion :) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login :p
