A couple questions relative to my engine bay rehab. Subject car is a 1974 365GT4 2+2

First, the breather canister mounted in the "vee" of the engine. What is the intended function? some sort of oil-vapor separator? Mine is nothing but a can full of rust which I shook out. Looking inside...to the extent possible...I can't see any baffles or standpipes or anything. It looks entirely empty. I'm wondering if the innards...whatever they may have been years ago....turned to rust and are now in my trash can.

Next question involves a couple mystery parts. My notes and pics have been fine so far but I dropped the ball in these two semi-circular widgets. One has remnants of some fiberglass insulation so I reckon they're heat shields, but for what?

    Thanks for any help

    DD

The shields fit over the engine mounts.

The "blow-by" is just meant to collect oil. It should be drained according to the maintenance schedule and that's it.
