John- Good point. I can guarantee I was really happy to wake up in the OR groggy with a breathing tube in my mouth. At least my nurses were pretty.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. Fingers are still not typing too well, but feel much better.

Thanks everybody for the well wishes. Considering the scars and how much they cut, I have been surprised at how little pain I have. Always have had a very high tolerance for pain, which came in handy this time.

They came to my house for several visits, just checkups, not rehab.

I had to drive to the hospital for rehab. They had valet parking :D so I didn't take the 550 :(

They had a " Calories Burned" display on the exercycles, I suggested that it would be more accurate to have "Oreo's Burned" as a measurement of energy spent. :D

Hey Terry, hope your post op recovery is progressing as anticipated with little or no surprises.
I did a little research into your op and learned a few things which I copied from Johns Hopkins:

What are Minimally-Invasive Approaches for Mitral Valve Repair?
Recently, new less invasive approaches for mitral valve surgery have been developed centered upon accessing the valve through much smaller incisions and without cutting the breastbone. These minimally-invasive operations are performed with the use of specialized hand-held instruments or a robotic device. There is mounting evidence to suggest that, compared to patients undergoing standard open-chest cardiac operations, these minimally-invasive approaches translate into

    • less pain
    • better wound cosmesis
    • fewer wound complications
    • shorter hospital stays
    • shorter recovery time

With a bit less pain, your shorter hospital stay and hopefully a shorter recovery time, you'll be back in your 575 in no time!

Take care and wishing you a successful recovery and many more enjoyable years to add to your Maranello's 27,000 miles.

    Best regards,

    Walter

Walter- Thanks and that is what we originally planned until another check showed 3 blocked arteries. So swapping out the mitral valve and doing a triple bypass required open heart surgery and stealing a vein from my left leg. Was actually pretty happy to wake up in intensive care. Four weeks on Friday, so coming along pretty well and have a great scar to show off.

My wife had her mitral swapped for a porcine 8 yrs ago this month. Her scar has healed to a point of having to really focus on it to see it, and her life/activities are completely unrestricted. Close to perfect medical outcome. Hope yours turns out the same, Terry.

Excellent! Glad you are progressing so well. That's pretty quick with the sternum healing. Well done, sir!
