It was right where it should be for the current market, in my professional opinion, if we were not in the midst of today's global uncertainty, it would have brought more.

i wonder where this fits into the price grid.
was this level due to the lack of miles? too many miles? the condition? the usa version? all of it?
does it have any bearing on what to expect for the one coming up in monterrey?

Sales price achieved is the result of a whole combination of factors which combine to help determine the value:

    - Condition of bodywork & paint, glass & Lexan, original interior appointments, wheels, lights & electrics, all mechanicals including engine, gearbox, suspension, chassis, brakes and fuel system.
    - Consideration of any paintwork, free of accidents or incidents or otherwise.
    - Mileage travelled and corroboration of same.
    - Original unmodified specification or otherwise.
    - Ownership history, number of owners and complete history of same.
    - Maintenance history, availability of maintenance invoices, availability of original invoices and window sticker or otherwise.
    - Classiche Certification or not.
    - Presence of original ancillaries, all manuals & warranty book, leather pouch, full tool sets, and Schedoni luggage if any exists.
    - Concours or major event awards if any exist.
    - PPI safety check to determine all running gear optimum and the fuel and oil system are without leaks.
    - Driving test to ensure the car runs to optimal temps, comes on boost, shifts, and brakes optimally.

    Etc.

My comments about the Gooding car potentially bringing more is related to the global situation in 2020, that fact that these cars are bringing strong numbers in such a year underscores the fact that they are becoming more revered by some.

F40 market values are characterized by a huge range, subject to these factors https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/147388191/ .

Joe, can you please advise as to what you are seeing right now with regard to demand in this new dilemma of Covid-19? I’m in New Zealand and whilst we’re fearing relatively well in this pandemic currently with regard to infection rates etc, the writing is on the wall with future economic impacts/recession etc. Strangely here we are seeing massive growth in property values, as if people are making life changing decisions as a consequence of lock down etc. I wonder if this thought process is transpiring to high end car demand for the likes of F40’s? Thanks in advance for your thoughts on the up-to-the-minute marketplace.

You can't generalize from one region to another, and, the F40 is such a specific asset characterized by such a big range in values for reasons Ive described above, that said, my Private Treaty numbers in 2020 are up from 2019 by perhaps 20%. I put this down to 2 simple factors: the guys with money still have it and in some cases more of it because they took money out of the stock market early this year, and, they have more time on their hands.

Thank you. I sense more demand but thought that was probably just my own excitement building and influencing my perception. Cheers Joe.

My take is, whatever is happening in 2020, let's not get carried away and draw any conclusions just yet, after the first quarter of 2021 we'll be able to see how things are shaping up. That said, all things considered for an unusual year like 2020, I would agree that demand has been surprisingly strong.

An F40 has to be one of the safest, most practical assets out there in these uncertain times.

Universally and timelessly desirable, rare, and usable, a perfect combination of factors.

I also like the use of the word “practical” to describe an F40. :)

Well, can you use your multi family homes or your bonds to go grocery shopping? So yes, practical! :)

Indeed, if you stay off-the-boost, you can get groceries, go to the post office and visit the bank in it, and many other things besides, one year I logged almost 3,000 miles in one of our F40s, it's a car, albeit a very fast and valuable one.

We sold it, but not for quite that much, it was a Private Treaty Sale so I'm not at liberty to disclose the actual number.
