I know it's somewhat sac-religious, but there will be a first 360/430 electric car at some point! Check out this 308 GTE

They stripped the 308 of the running gear and replaced it with Tesla batteries and motors. Ferraris are apparently quite amenable to this conversion with the cavernous rear engine bay, plus extra storage in the front.

If your engine and tranny are kaput, you might have the world's first 360E!

There is no question it will happen and probably sooner than later. Love it or hate it, electric cars are here to stay and will eventually dominate the automotive landscape.

I'm sure people will do the swaps. But eventually, new Ferrari's will be electric...and if you want an electric Ferrari you can just go out and buy one.

I don't see the point in such swaps. Just buy a Tesla and keep the Ferrari the way it is...why try to blend the worst of both into one? :D

I had these same feelings when I finally - and reluctantly - switched my driver from a persimmon head to a metal wood. For years, the sound of the metal hitting the ball just didn't seem right. You were supposed to hear "swoosh" then the "click" of that wood hitting the ball. I was cleaning out my garage and found my old driver and it now feels like a toy.

    The times are a'changing.

I wasn't suggesting that anyone do it, but more asking the question of when someone will do it. If you had a flood salvage 360, that would be the perfect candidate.

This is also sacrilege but I’d sooner stuff a Chevy crate engine in there than an electric. Now that there’s a mid engine Vette, you might even be able to get a matching transmission to fit. As for electrics, where would you put the batteries and maintain handling balance?

Check out the youtube video of the 308 in the original post. Apparently the weight is so even that the thing handles far better than a true 308. I don't know about the ins and outs of all that stuff, but the video is a fun, and quick, watch.

I think it is possible that performance is a central issue with many owners, not the horse insignia. That group includes me ...and we like it faster....LOL

    Buy 70-90k 360

spend 20-50k to do the swap

    car is now worth 40-60???
Then in 2-8yrs when cells need replacement

    spend another 20-30k for cells

    ...

Oh and the wgt of the car post swap will be a slug....

    ....

agree though petrol engine decades are numbered...

If its performance that's the central issue, then an old 360/430 isn't where you should be looking.

You could definitely surprise a few people with the speed of that old 308! That isn't without its appeal, even if the lovely old v8 soundtrack is lost in the process.

If you want to make the point at least use relatively accurate numbers. I believe your costs are pretty high and cells last way more than 2-8 years. In fact, if you aren't rapid charging often the cells appear to commonly last a in excess of 10 years. The Model S came out 10 years ago and they are still going strong and the first Roadster came out over 15 years ago. Not to mention that you wouldn't likely go for a great running example to make the swap. You would likely use a lower cost car since you are yanking the engine and transaxle anyway.

I think they are working on a system where there are speakers near the exhaust that play exhaust sounds when you hit the throttle. That's an option though so it costs you a bit more. :D

Correct. I have a really weird sense of fun, so if I picked up a flooded 360 for $35K, I might actually be up for doing this just as a conversation piece, and maybe even an occasional race against a C8.

Here's a $22K example that might be the perfect candidate:
