Just a quick question for the 348 brotherhood regarding driveshaft couplings. I am about to re-pack the driveshaft couplings and noticed at disassembly that there was a thick coating of hand brushed blue-green paint covering the coupling and probably specifically the "split line" between the coupling and the wheel hub adapter. As there is no "o ring" or other means of sealing this juncture is this paint applied to externally seal this area from grease migration ? Thanks in advance, J Glen Wesanko

I will assume that the lack of comment means there is no issue of grease leakage from the driveshaft couplings. Why these couplings were painted will remain a mystery.....

Sounds like you are describing where the CV joint meets the axle flange. I am assuming this "paint" you are describing is waxy in its properties. If so, what you are looking at is a sealant to keep the grease from being flung out between the seams of the CV boot-CV joint-axle flange.
I am speaking from the 355 perspective but I am pretty sure its the same thing for the 348.

That sounds strange. How does one reseal those when rebuilding them? Can one buy that waxy sealant?

Yep. When I did my CV boots it came part of the kit. However, that was a "manually" put together kit. Ricambi I think has it.

It's Hylomar, a sealant that comes with most boot kits.
