Preparing to start on my major/variator replacement, and replacing both tensioners while I'm in there. I believe the hardware is typically replaced (and I would be replacing it anyway as I normally so) but the screws (4 total required) are around $50 apiece from Ricambi, similar price or more from other vendors...are these some type of special kind of metal, or design, or is this just more Ferrari nonsense and I can just go down to Ace and match em up like I normally do for other applications that will not result in a catastrophic failure?

Don't see the sense in replacing those 2 steel type screws. They are not aluminum like the ones holding the bearing.

The other two long ones, once again, don't see point every time as long as torque correctly

1st, I think only the 2x LH side screws are updated. not 100% sure. I replaced all 4 of mine.
2nd, if it fails, it is catastraphic, so ferrari must have updated the bolts for a reason, for a stronger metal presumably.

Do you think titanium replacement is an option?

May look into it, but I wouldn't claim to be schooled enough in the theories of metal reactivity to make an informed decision.

for bolts of this kind of weight and this kind of importance, I'd rather trust ferrari for that. I'd rather loose an ounce of weight to compensate that.

A bolt failure would destroy your engine. Not worth the risk.

Yeah, when I did my heat exchanger I didn't replace those, they were still in really good shape....but before that, I ordered and returned several aftermarket reinforced silicone reducers trying to find one that worked. Apparently this is the only thing on earth that uses those sizes. Thanks again Ferrari.

They look to be a higher yield strength that is not available commerically, thus the higher price for a lower volume, custom fastener. Do not use a box store fastener for this.

Aight y'all, just want to let anyone else who's going to do this, I just ordered all 4 from Algar Ferrari by phone, with FCA discount it came to around 150 bucks shipped. Don't feel too bad for Ricambi though, I'm about to put in an $800 order....

There must be more to the story. The torque on these is 25NM or 18.44 foot pounds which is nothing. I suspect it has more to do with torsional loading rather than fastening load. Perhaps the original bolts were of an inferior grade or were prone to cracks.

I'm sure these screws are not anything out of the ordinary for someone who works in the nut n bolt industry, but for me, the research, not to mention the questions that would be in the back of my mind just wasn't worth it for this application....my only gripe is that after paying this much for a few bolts, they could have at least put them in a horsey bag..;)

Are their any markings on the end of them? I saw a VG (I think) in the Ricambi photos.
Daniel ships so fast! It's really awesome, even out here. He's like a JIT supplier.

EDIT: I see you got that fancy set of chopsticks!

Actually got these from Algar, they were a little cheaper, doesn't happen often. 2 of the bolts say "VT" and the other 2 say "VU".No clue what either mean.

Yeah those markings are non-industry standard markings. They must be 50 bucks each to get the manufacturer to off label them! I am sorry I missed this thread until after you pulled the trigger. You might have saved some money but then you would have to store the other bolts in the pack that you didn't use! :)

Are they meant to have a goldish colored zinc coating like the bulletin/photos show?
